Focus RS.
GIVE IT TO ME NOW!
Granted, I've been a fan of Ford for a long time.

C.
(I know the Focus RS supposedly has some kind of torque-vectoring awd that can send all the power to 1 wheel, but I'm reserving judgment until Ford says exactly how it does that. If it's brake-based torque vectoring with open diffs, no thanks. Real LSDs—electric, mechanical, whatever—and then I'm interested.)

Although the only time I've had with a Golf R has been with, no joke, a 350 lb salesman in the front and a 180 lb friend in the back, so I'm sure that mucked with the handling a bit.

RS for street/track/2-3" snow.
STi for off-road rally environments and deep snow.
.:R for admiring in the showroom.

RS all day every day.
![]() 02/03/2015 at 11:29 |

Golf R. I commute about 80 miles a day, at least an hour each way, and I want something that has a great stereo and has an upscale interior.
![]() 02/03/2015 at 11:30 |

SORRY I CANT HEAR YOU OVER THE SOUND OF 485HP.
(if $37k is right, this is only $2k more)
![]() 02/03/2015 at 11:30 |

I'll disagree with everyone and take the Golf R.
![]() 02/03/2015 at 11:31 |

I haven't wanted to bring it up but is ford aiming for Subaru with the new RS?
![]() 02/03/2015 at 11:31 |

FORD. I don't like electrical problems :p
![]() 02/03/2015 at 11:32 |

Ford but only if I fit in the seats(I'm too fat for the ST so I imagine it's will be the same for the RS).
![]() 02/03/2015 at 11:33 |

Seriously though, I like the look of the VW better, but it sounds like the FoRS is going to be a blast to drive
![]() 02/03/2015 at 11:34 |

Golf R because Germany. I much prefer the Golf R's interior and, that weird grill thing on the RS bothers the hell out of me. If, however, if the RS turns out to be a substantially better performer which it looks like it might be, it is possible that I may be swayed. I'm sure the FoRS is going to be insane and I kind of want one, but as of right now I'm going with the Golf.
![]() 02/03/2015 at 11:36 |

Golf because the other option is ugly,
![]() 02/03/2015 at 11:36 |

I'd lean towards the VW first, just because I like my GTI so much, and I've had a good experience with my local dealer. Plus they'll prob give me more $$$ on the trade.
My next car will be leased though, so I could be swayed by a sweet deal.

same price range... same blue ness :]

Save money, still have a blast. Great DD.

or
Honda Civic Type R
Renault Megane RS 275
Skoda Octavia vRS
Mercedes A25 AMG
and so many others.
But of the two, I'd go for the Focus RS.

not sure about the Merc price wise. I've driven a those Renault and Skoda... they were good but I don't think they'd hang. Civic Type-R hopefully will be a good competitor

Huh, really? Would've expected more love for the RS. Guess I should've read the comments.

Golf R, as long as there's a warranty.
![]() 02/03/2015 at 11:51 |

Nope definitely not. If canada had the Focus ST 1 with the standard sport seats I'd already own it. but in canada we only get the ST 3. and big Luc does not fit at all. I'm a big dude but not massive, 2xl shirts. The only way I fit is if I sit sideways.
![]() 02/03/2015 at 11:52 |

It's definitly an excellect machine. You can rent one in Mexico DF like I did. This Focus RS though seems like it's going to be the performance leader. But like I always say, there is no "best in class" They all offer so much!

2xl club whooo!!!! I'm a bigger dude (not too tall) as well. Big to where I can never find clothes my size but smaller than some big dudes lol. As far as cars seats though, I'm big lol :]

The Focus RS is about as American as, well, the Golf R.
![]() 02/03/2015 at 12:00 |

same here 5'5" can't find clothes to save my life and I'm fucking huge as far as car manufacturers are concerned.
![]() 02/03/2015 at 12:01 |

Next time I go to Mexico, I will definitely make it my goal to rent one. I definitely think the RS will be a performance leader, but not sure by how much. I still think the Golf R seems more mature, and has a much better interior. The Megane RS is just sexy. So, so sexy.
![]() 02/03/2015 at 12:02 |

whooo!!!!!!!
![]() 02/03/2015 at 12:04 |

There's just too much choice. If they were all lined up and I had to pick one I think my head would explode. It's leaning toward the Skoda as I love Skoda.

Probably because most of Oppo sucks Ford dick.
![]() 02/03/2015 at 12:09 |

Thank God someone else notices. It gets a bit excessive sometimes.
![]() 02/03/2015 at 12:09 |

agreed, one could even branch out to other types of performance cars in the same price range.
![]() 02/03/2015 at 12:10 |

The supply chain for every car manufactured today is such a complex web criss–crossing the globe that they are all pretty much multinational. Ford's headquarters are only a short way from my hometown and I know many people who work for them. I'd much rather support a company that I consider to be a part of my local community and an eminent corporate presence of my home country than one that is just visiting from Europe.

Patrick doesn't know how to read. It sends up to 70% to the rear, of which 100% of that 70% can be sent to one of the rear wheels.

I think there is about 30 good hot hatches to choose from before going onto saloons, estates and coupes.
I just found the best image ever but I don't think U.S. Oppos would like it. Lol.

![]() 02/03/2015 at 12:37 |

In a manual? RS.
In an auto? Golf.
If both had DCTs? RS again.
Honestly, I just really want an RS with a DCT.

![]() 02/03/2015 at 12:52 |

That means be careful cause your probably about 10-15 pounds away from not being very comfortable in there.
![]() 02/03/2015 at 13:00 |

RS. Vw will break in 5 years anyway
![]() 02/03/2015 at 13:04 |
|
nah. All cars have the same fate, especially with careless owners :]
![]() 02/03/2015 at 13:35 |

Over here we got the old RS, if it's anything like it and if they don't put some more quality into the RS interior, IMO it's gonna be a shitty car, I loved the old one, but it was unrefined, unconfortable and it had really bad interiors, specially in the back...
I'd go for the Golf R, but VW doesn't sell it here, so I'm pretty determined tht if I'm ever to buy another Hot car ever, it's gonna be the WRX (non-STi) even if the dealer network and parts availability is almost non-existent here in Mexico.
BUT we are getting the Megane RS by the end of the year (Renault has finally woken up and figured we need a Halo car, even if it is gonna end up being expensive as shit, but we already get the Clio RS) so I got that going for me, which is nice...
![]() 02/03/2015 at 14:00 |
|
RS. To the point that the STI might actually get traded in on one. I'm getting old enough that it is time to trade in the big winged rally rocket on a practical wagon/5 door. Yes, that's the justification to use.

Eh i know enough people with modern Vw products that are falling apart after a few years
![]() 02/03/2015 at 14:49 |

Yeah, I was super excited when I saw it at my local Renault dealer (It's actually inside a Shopping Center/Mall, I need to take a pic and share) and when I went in a talked to the sales person, he assured me the Megane is coming too...
Also Good News, my local Toyota dealer said the 4Runner is coming back to Mexico, I own a 2006 SR5 and I really want to replace it with something newer and nobody is selling theirs...
![]() 02/03/2015 at 15:00 |
|
4Runner is coming back? Sweeeet!!! Those are so awesome! I saw a Hilux with a TRD decal, not sure if it was real option or just a sticker
![]() 02/03/2015 at 15:22 |
|
If you saw it in Mexico, it was definitely a sticker, they don't actually sell optional TRD packages here, the closest thing is the Tacoma, which you can only get in TRD-Sport trim (sucks, really, the Off-Road package is off the rails awesome)
Aside from the fact it's gonna be crazy expensive (they're probably gonna slot it between the over-priced Highlander and the Sequoia) but it will be nice to have the 4Runner back, now let's just hope more tan 10 people actually buy it, also why not just bring the Fortuner for those of us that just want a BOF SUV that is bullet-proof...
![]() 02/03/2015 at 15:34 |

Golf R or WRX.
![]() 02/03/2015 at 15:58 |

that is true. Even used 4Runners are expensive. but are solid and capable

Oh, hell yes, I have mine not even 100 meters from me right now, despite me coming to work to a different city for 3 months, I brought the Toyota and not the new Golf that is currently gathering dust back in Mexico City.
Mine has around 13x,xxx kms and between me and my dad we have driven around 80k of those and it has needed, seriously, A break change and A suspension service and several oil changes (full service) that is really not a lot, considering I have driven it semi-fast on dirt roads several times, we have used it as our cargo vehicle for the company for several years, it remains tight as a drum and reliable as always...
I don't know how well you know mexican roads, but that many trouble free kms is a rare occurrence here...

rs please

Focus.
![]() 02/04/2015 at 23:30 |

Does anybody have any experience with the redone Focus interior? I prefer the exterior of RS (and ST for that matter) but the interior of the first gen ST had some really wonky ergo for me, long reaches, shifter didn't seem in the right place, wheel wouldn't adjust far enough, the seat didn't go down far enough. And I too know several folks with newer VWs with issues... neighbor dumped his 2010 GTI with the DCT, (but when it was working it sure was cool - they shift so damn fast...)
