I'm not a professional photographer or even a hobbyist, but I knew this occasion would have to be documented. I could've done a better job of varying the height of the camera, but the subject was perfect enough to make most of these pictures pretty good regardless. The best part about this was all of the fully pedigreed cars that raced the Rallye Monte Carlo of their day. Hearing them roar down the road was a treat, but unfortunately I lost my light and couldn't take any decent pictures. Enjoy!
I really had a thing for this old fintail.
So, you like Integrales?
Those buttresses though
For all I know these could be legendary race car drivers, so I took a picture when they were being photographed.
And that's all folks! Hope you enjoyed it.

Cool stuff. Was the fintail a 300SE? Bumper appears to be the lower piece from a W108.

Yep, 300SE according to the starting list.

Oooh, damn you to hell. I should have been there as a "mechanic" (i.e. the guy holding the torch for the other mechanic) for car 297, but we had to retire during the first day, around 300 km after the start in Copenhagen. I would not mind being in the south of France right now.

On our way home to Sweden that night, we discussed whether we should steal the Top Gear motto 'ambitious but rubbish'.

Dude, get a clue. See all this above? Figure it out and make it so.

Only 3 more years until you can import the EVO II versions! I can't wait! (sidenote: eat only ramen for the next three years to be able to afford to purchase and import one.)

Lancia + Rally = Perfect combo

Can I get out of the greys, por favor?
The guy on the far right looks like Harry Metcalfe, founder of EVO magazine (who left to head up Jaguar's "engineered to order" program)

Ah, no. My comment about the Integrales was referring to the picture above. That was a Lancia Montecarlo.

I think I'm going to start with the fogs below and maybe add the upper white lights for the country.

OoOoOoh... I am having a serious Lancia crisis. Mine wants a set of number plates & Cibie Oscars too!

I am there as well, preparing a magazine feature, therefore spending more time on stages. Just FYI, in the pictures above, only the cars with starting numbers on the side are actually taking part, the rest (most of the Lancias unfortunately) are brought there by the organizers just for the show.

Ah I didn't know that. Thanks for the info!

So much awesome can barely be contained. I see a 124 Spider Abarth in the background of a couple picks. I've always loved those.
By chance was there an Austin Healey 3000 in attendance? They participated in many rallys back in the day...
Thanks for sharing these pic. I need to go to that event some day.

There were two Austin Healey 3000 Mk IIs according to my start list. It was honestly one of the most fun events I've ever been to. Highly recommended.

Man, is the Lancia Beta Montecarlo a largely underrated car!

I never thought of how good the Alpine could look in this unusual livery.
