Notice I didn’t say “coolest” - show me something unusual! I suffer from James May levels of OCD, so I attached this pencil holder miniature trash can to my rear passenger side floor mat.
Any paper/plastic trash I create goes straight into the can. No food/drink residue though, of course. That would defeat the purpose.
Given the state of the average person’s interior - trash under the seats, receipts in the ash trays, candy wrappers in the cup holders - shouldn’t all cars come with some kind of dedicated wastebasket? This little addition really helps keep my car clean.
So - what’s the most unconventional mod you’ve made to your ride?

I have an air freshener on my rear AC vent and it smells nice.

The transmission speed sensor bracket broke, so now it’s taped in. It’s been that way for a year and a half and hasn’t fell out yet.

NO WAY! That’s insane, better call up hot import nights

That’s hilarious. Long live the Slowrunner!

In other words, my car is hellastock.

And nevertheless hella cool. I dig the interior on those A6s!

Haha, thanks! :)

Hmm. Almost no one else who i ride with has their DRL s turned into turn signals
Unsual but effective

Probably the jet drive.

I knocked a bunch of rust off, does that count? Adding lightness one flake at a time.

My Land Rover has working electrics.

I replaced the stock from & rear lips on my xB with modified 90s Jetta front lips for added ground clearance(yes it is lowered, they scraped badly at stock ride height too).
I also installed a set of 90s Toyota Corolla center caps:
But I filled in and smoothed the TOYOTA letters to match my debadged car.

jeep overhead console in my civic
![]() 12/31/2015 at 14:38 |

In older cars they do not have clips to make sure the floor mats don’t slide all over the place. I put some double-sided velcro with sticky backs to make sure it doesn’t slide at all.
Makes the car feel a bit newer!
![]() 12/31/2015 at 14:50 |

That’s the most radical mod I’ve ever heard of.
![]() 12/31/2015 at 14:52 |

Jetta lips fit on a Scion!? Who knew! And that’s a clean job on the letter fill, well done sir.

seems a far better choice than those flush mount turn signals that are so popular. how’s the visibility of them from the side though?
![]() 12/31/2015 at 14:54 |

while I had my carpet out I actually put in a clip, and added an eyelet to my factory mats. totally worth it. it’s the small things that are most worht it sometimes.
![]() 12/31/2015 at 14:55 |

That’s definitely unusual, I don’t know much about bikes but FWIW this is a new one to me! Also that structure in the background - it looks ominous, is that a big dam?
![]() 12/31/2015 at 14:57 |

That’s AWESOME. What a clean install too. My friend just bought an XJ Cherokee and he’s also looking at overhead consoles, I’m gonna have to show him this. I think you win the thread!

Genius! That’s a great tip, I might use it some day.
![]() 12/31/2015 at 14:58 |

welllllll.... I cheated. I replaced the temp/direction/whatever read out with a clock, so that just needed power. and the lights did require a bit of deciphering from my engineer father before they worked correctly, but in general all it needed was power, which existed for the factory dome light.
![]() 12/31/2015 at 14:59 |

So in other words, you’re an electrical engineer?
![]() 12/31/2015 at 15:02 |

Aaaah ok that makes sense! I was wondering if you used power from something nearby

I put baby wipes boxes for trash and fresh lavender bags for scent.
![]() 12/31/2015 at 15:08 |

I put a klaxon on my Mk1 Jetta back in the late 90s.

I use a dish that usually is used to hold dipping sauces, and I put it In my cup holder. makes a PERFECT change holder for tolled roads

I have a WRC antenna that I found in a Belgian supermarket!

Not toooo unique but I installed M3 suspension components (front control arms, sways off an M3 convertible, bushings, etc.) onto my 328i to refresh the suspension. Parts weren't very expensive and were w great upgrade. Plan on doing the same (and more) to my 335i.
![]() 12/31/2015 at 17:10 |

Not unique in the BMW world, but definitely unusual everywhere else! I don’t think there are many manufacturers with such a wide variety of OEM mods to choose from.

Honda/Acura does! 90’s vehicles though.
![]() 12/31/2015 at 18:00 |
|
True! After years of hating on 90s Honda products, I actually find them quite charming now - I bet a swapped coupe or hatchback is a ton of fun (ek or eg?)
![]() 12/31/2015 at 18:12 |

EK or EG hatchback.
Yes, once you get it in your head that these are “quick” cars, not “fast” cars, it is tons of fun for commuter prices.

It always amuses me when people use their cars as trash cans, even though they “love their cars.” I was working on an E46 and it was disgusting. Food and trash everywhere, the paint was ruined, the wheels were brake dust and no longer silver. I just don't get people.

Wow, where do I begin??
The CarPC Tablet and joystick shifter
The full octave train horns
A refrigerator in my trunk
I air conditioned my supercharger.
I put Corvette ZR1 & Z06 sways and springs on a Cadillac.

Yep, it’s gross. And SO inconsiderate if you’re driving people around.
![]() 01/02/2016 at 13:19 |
|
That’s outrageous!! Lol
![]() 01/02/2016 at 15:08 |

Yup. But usually, the people you’re driving around on a regular basis have the same habits.
Really it’s inconsiderate for your mechanic. I HATE getting in a gross car, it pisses me off.
