I wonder why that is different in photos from the past. Calder didn’t paint it, he didn’t really care about it at all. In fact a friend of his convinced him to make the sketch and he only saw it once when they brought it to his house. You can see B/W photos of that day. Maurer was a sponsor or team from late 80s to 90s.

The photos where I can see the car from that angle are either without that or it’s pretty hard to tell.
