First, it was looping gifs. I blocked those. Now they have auto-play, auto-looping webm files! Do have to get yet another extension to block these from autoplaying?!?
I did find several sites that suggest changing the advanced plugin options in Chrome will fix it, but the option to switch to “click to play” is not available in the latest version of Chrome.
Options, anyone?

I’m having the same problem with auto play, but only on my iPhone (Safari). Browsing the Jalopnik FP, ALL the videos just start playing automatically. I can’t figure it out.
Something changed with Kinja, because this only started like a week or so ago, and I haven’t changed anything on my phone.
It’s really annoying.

Agreed, it is REALLY annoying.
They switched from using gifs to the webm video format with autoplay and loop turned on. If they would just turn off the autoplay and loop settings, that would make all the difference.

Wait, Kinja does WEBMs now? Hang on a sec...
Image upload failed.
Yeah, I’m not convinced.

I hate it when the Youtube videos are set to autoplay. At the end of a “Jason Drives” video, for example, it starts playing something else because the poster embedded a PLAYLIST.

I still can’t embed a WEBM. Is it just me?

No idea. I haven’t tried to embed. Perhaps they have allowed it for their media and not for their users. Did you try both pasting it and using their upload tool? Maybe it is being blocked from upload by your provider (are you at work?).

Yeah, I even tried downloading the exact one you linked to and re-uploading it. Doesn’t matter if I upload or use the link. It won’t embed in a reply, nor in a new post.

Kinja being Kinja. I wonder if they are testing it with their paid authors and just haven’t enabled it for us plebians.
