Bah who wants cars that can’t change lanes!

I remember lusting after those. My first time behind the wheel was a Tyco slot car set, but when I saw the “slotless slot car” (i think that’s what they were called), I realized I was a mere mortal.

I had (have? I should check my parent’s basement) a set. It did actually work, though I remember the car’s electronics being a bit flaky.

My favorite car track toy was Darda though:

Ah, yet another I loved to see at Toys R Us. Instead of getting one of those, I’d have the Hot Wheels single loop and jump setup, and would get extra track sections. Still fun.

I bought a slot car set for my son and I... and it was cheap shit. Constant frustration with bad connections and sections of track without power.

But I’ve always wanted to get a well made set that doesn’t have constant power connection problems and dead sections.

So I’m curious to see what other Oppos recommend.

Back when I was a wee lad, it was Tyco, but they seem to have gone the way of the dodo. Recently AFX has been producing slot cars, but they’re a little on the pricey side...just what I’ve seen of late.
