I’m pretty bad at outdoors photography. Even worse at making them look half-decent in Lightroom. I seem to have an obsession with low-contrast low-fi vignetted looks-like-a-Kodak-disposable-camera aesthetics.
These are also some of the most Kansas shots EVER

The last two look pretty good!

have you tried popping the flash for some fill light? If the built in one on the camera cant do, try an external one.

I actually like that first pic.
What I would suggest most is shooting with the sun behind you and/or lower in the sky.
The brights are super bright, and the shadows are brightened which leads to more noise in the darker areas, try lowering contrast and playing with the blacks, whites and clarity more.

yeah, most of these photos were:
1. Lower contrast
2. Brighten shadows
2.5 Darken highlights if I was clipping
3. Turn up “clarity” a bit
4. A touch more saturation
5. VIGNETTE BITHCES
I just shot this real quick after eating lunch on my way back to work when I stumbled on this little road, didn’t have enough time to properly stage anything. Shooting into the sun is terrible.

Honestly if I was pointing away from the sun I probably could have done alright. But yeah, the built in flash wouldn’t be doing much from how far away I was.

Thanks! I really like that vertical one. Probably going to become my phone wallpaper.

Nice, try crouching down to headlight level next time :)

Opps.. just saw this..

91 in silverstone? I miss mine. Was my first Miata.

Yup. Badly in need of a re-paint but looks great from a distance other than the panel gaps.

It just looks so happy! Like a rescue puppy in a new home. Looks great!

You might be suprised. It seems counterintuitive, but using a flash on a bright sunny day can make all the difference, especially if the light is coming straight down. If you’re using a camera, and not a phone, you should have some control over the brightness of the flash. You might also experiment with putting your subject somewhere other than the center of the frame.

Too many trees, not Kansas enough.
(the NA looks sharp too)

Yeah, but the built-in flash on my D3100 is pretty weak, and I was shooting from a decent distance away and zooming in. I wanted to do a shot that would basically just be a prairie landscape shot with the car in the corner, but there was too much clutter for me to frame it without getting some random out-of-place building in frame so I didn’t bother.

You’d be surprised how many damn trees this state has.

I’m from Wichita, I live in Manhattan, KS. “Most Kansas” is tallgrass prairie for me.

Oh, yeah. When you get over into the flint hills it’s definitely majorly prairie. There are a ton of trees here in the Wichita area, though. Probably due to being close to the river.

Yep. Weirdly enough most were brought in by settlers, for wind breaks, then they spread. I do love Wichita (and the big ditch ) though, since I grew up there.

I always wanted to drive a hovercraft through the Big Ditch and the canal inbetween I-135 and I-135.
That’s a pretty damn cool bit of trivia, though.

Have ridden four-wheelers in the big ditch, can confirm is fun.

Mine had some gap around the headlights and front bumper as well, like yours. Oh well, enjoy what you got. I’ll try to post some pics of my pristine 97 M when it gets done sleeping for the winter. Oh, know how I can get Oppo privileges? Thanks.

I wish my 97M had this typography on the dash gauges. Strongly dislike the comic sans-y font.

I think I may have just given you oppo privileges, but I’m not entirely sure how these things work.
