I’ve been perversely disappointed at the lackadaisical speed enforcement locally. I mean, they don’t even try! Always-on radar, black-and-whites... SMH.
Finally, today, I got someone who was actually on his game. Unmarked white Impala, instant-on.
Thankfully I don’t speed on this road, because it’s über-residential and there are a lot of cars and pedestrians moving around, but I know a lot of folks speed egregiously here, because long straight blocks. Perfect and appropriate spot for a speed trap! Sure enough, by the time I circled back home ten minutes later, he had his prey.
Well done, Officer.

I find it interesting that you rolled a stop right in front of him and he didn’t bat an eye.
I suppose tickets for not stopping aren't worth as much money.

I don’t know; around here, I see far worse rolling stops. This was about as close as you can come to full stop without actually stopping

Oh, so do I. Judging by the video, it's about the same as something I would do (barring certain districs around here. There are some where you slow down enough that you could stop if you see a cop, and then you go. It works because everyone does it, and if you don't then you are the one screwing things up. When in Rome...), but if there is any sign of a cop, you STOP. You never can tell around here. Some of them let you get away with a 2nd gear stop, others will nail you even if you stopped but didn't "wait 3 seconds so they could see the vehicle settle, and since I couldn't tell if it was stopped or not so you're getting a ticket anyway". So it's not worth the risk.

I did almost 20 over past a highway patrol SUV this morning. He couldn’t have cared less apparently. I’m usually pretty vigilant but this morning I wasn’t and he didn’t have his radar on.

Surprised he even aimed it at you seeing as you were not even moving that fast.

seems like it was quite a bit from when you made the turn till when your radar detector went off... like 6-7 seconds?

He probably wanted to give me a chance to haul ass... it’s a long block, you could (and people do) get up to 45-50 there easily if you don’t care about kids and driveways.

here in Canada we call a rolling stop an american stop. Are there any other names for a rolling stop in the states?

I’m in Toronto, so no idea about the US. The only ones I’ve ever heard are:
Second Gear stop (pretty self explanatory)
Jewish stop (I have no idea. Maybe based of the “cheap” stereotype ie. it saves money on gas an brakes?)
Vaughan stop (This is my preferred term for extreme rolling, named after the area described in my last comment. I made the term up, though someone else could have done so in parallel.)

The best I ever saw was many years ago. There was a car up on the median of a boulevard type road. The trunk was up and the driver was standing at the drivers side of the trunk kind of leaning against the open lid. I assumed he was getting ready to get the spare tire out or something. When I got closer I realized he was using the trunk to steady his lean while he was clocking people with his radar gun. The car was angled so you couldn’t get a good look at the sides, and with the trunk up you couldn’t see the lettering on the trunk or see the light bar. It was a fully marked cop car with a light bar and you couldn’t tell until you got close enough to see the radar gun in the cops hands or see the municipal plate on the back. Luckily I was driving at a reasonable and prudent speed so I didn’t get a second look, but I definitely gave him props for maximum sneakiness while in plain sight.
