It’s the i8. It’s like driving the future, seriously.
Here’s the reasoning on the others:
4c: Great car, not nearly comfortable enough for my needs, but if I needed a track car or lived in Marin and could drive it once in a while it would be on the list. Looks and sounds great.
AMG GT-S: Whammy . See below.
Vantage: My exotic car mechanic told me in no uncertain terms not to buy an Aston. This guy thinks the maintenance requirements on Ferraris are not too bad. No thanks.
Corvette/F-type: Decided they are not exotic enough. However the F-type is a gorgeous car and I’d buy the Corvette if my main goal was to win stop-light drags. (Note: It’s a bummer that all three cars on the list with manual transmissions didn’t ultimately appeal to me.)
AMG GT-S: Yesterday I set up appointments to drive both the i8 and the GT-S. When I arrived at BMW the salesman came outside to meet me and the car was rock-n-roll ready to go. I finished up (verdict: awesome) and told him I was going to Mercedes to drive the GT-S, then I called the Mercedes dealer since I was going to be a little late. When I got there the car was sitting on the showroom floor blocked in my about 10 other cars, and the salesman (who I had to go find) had to ask his manager if I could drive it (took 10 mins to get permission - huh?) then wanted 30 minutes to move all the cars around to get it out of the showroom. If that’s the treatment that dealer offers, it’s sort of a no-brainer. Plus by that point the i8 had really impressed me.

I assume you bought the convertible version, as you don’t seem like a terrible person.

Good call, and now’s probably the time to buy a new i8 since the hype appears to have worn off enough that cars aren’t selling with ridiculous markups and whatnot.
Now then, so when are you going to modify it ?

Did you consider a Gen V Viper?

I am interested to hear how you like it once the honeymoon phase wears off.

I’m happy to do a 3 or 6 month review (probably 6 is better since I don’t really drive much but I will have at least 2-3 road trips in the car by then) if people are interested.

I may well get new wheels and tires. I don’t love the wheels yet, but I’ll give them a while to grow on me. Like mold, or fungus.

I looked at a 997.2 GTS at a Porsche dealer, I had set up my appointment a week in advance. Call 20 minutes before to let them know I’m coming and the guy pauses before saying “ohhhh right yeah I remember you.”
I get there and the car is sitting in the showroom and the salesmen I had just talked to was on lunch.

Congrats, it’ an awesome car, would buy if I had the money, it looks soooo mad, it gets quite a lot of attention and is a definite future classic (if BMW stops making so many of them sometime soon)...

I hope you left and bought something equally awesome elsewhere.

Still on the hunt! Bought something to daily drive recently (335i) as I’m looking to make some adjustments. Currently have 3 cars, going to sell the other 2 and if everything works out I’ll have a GTS or a lime rock park E92 M3.

Is the 335 current or previous generation? If so I’d probably buy something other than the E9X M3 just to mix it up.

It's an e92, I see what you mean about mixing it up. The LRP M3 makes the most sense as an investment standpoint but I bet a GTS or a turbo would be so much fun.
