I’ve said before I love cheap big luxury sedans with high mileage. This one is no exception. A weekend Vegas cruiser. 08 S550 for 15 grand. Has almost 188k on the odo though. I love this gen of S Class. Would you go for it or is it too risky. I’m not too familiar with the reliability of these.

If it has survived to 188,000 miles without exploding, it’s probably a good buy.

Not when you could get one with 100k less miles for 5 k more. In Santa Ana.

I’d pull the trigger. Of an RPG. Pointed at it.

Surprisingly solid. I’ve seen them with higher mileage and only minor issues. Good buy if it has halfway decent service history. Engines are basically trouble free. Air suspension is also somehow surprisingly reliable (I think I’ve replaced two struts on these ever, but not sure if a hotter climate makes a difference here). By far the biggest fears for me would be transmission electric/conductor plate and intake manifold. Each of those is in the $700-1200 range installed at a dealer typically (if I’m not mistaken).

From my constant browsing of Mercedes forums, the W221 is a step up from the W220 in terms of reliability, I haven’t heard many, if not any horror stories about these cars, they’re generally pretty solid, but still budget accordingly if you’re planning to purchase one, wear and tear parts that have been neglected can take a toll on your wallet. Especially since this has done 188K on the odometer. Have it checked out by an independent specialist.

I burst out laughing at this! My usual phrase whenever I see a horribly modded car or stanced car I always say to myself somebody please blow it up or roll a grenade under it.

I’d use it as target practice if that’s what you mean. It’d probably be cheaper.

I saw one of these today slammed with rubber band tires and monospoke rimz. I want to say his air suspension was just broken but given the other mods I’m pretty sure it was on purpose... :(
