It’s like a Swedish Isuzu Impulse Wagonback!
(Seriously, they’re pretty damn similar looking. Swap the front ends and it would be hard to tell which one’s which.)

How. What.. 480?
That’s a damn sexy machine!
(Is that a pic of some weird single model car show?)

Yes.

Probably.

I think this is my favorite part
(the Volvo emblem in the lower valence area in case my tag jumps)

It’s like someone glued the front end of another Volvo to the bottom of the car. I love it.

Love the look of that Volvo, but I looked them up once and they were apparently known for having a lot of issues...?

I think it’s very little known that this continues a long-standing Volvo tradition of glass boot doors. See:

I like it. Especially the grille. Still has the crossbar even though it’s below the bumper.

I've always crushed on those Volvos. Thanks for reminding me about them, time to scour auto trader!

The new V40 fakes it but looks pretty good anyways...

Hey yeah! Not quite the same, but points for trying!

It’s a shame it was based on the FWD 440 instead of the RWD 340. Unreliability together with a high price made these rare, I’ve only seen a couple the last 15 years. It is cool looking though, came with a turbo as well.

I also like how each of the Volvo ‘glass-boot’ shooting breaks represents a different time in the company’s history...for example, the P1800ES represented the original RWD redblock cars known for reliability and durability whereas the 480 represented the era of turbos and the transition between RWD and FWD while the C30 represented the Ford ownership of Volvo with the marvelous new T5 engines and the Focus P1 platform.

I almost bought a pair a few years ago, but they were too far rotted to be worth saving.

Except that they’re Dutch!

That is a very awesome realization. They’ve done them so sparingly that each represents a unique phase in the company

My dad used to have a red one, turbocharged I believe. He took it on track days frequently. It was so low that he used to make me and my brother get out of the car to go over speed bumps. At least, thats my 6 year old self’s prevailing memory of it.
