You can do better than this.
The shiny black trim around the window switches on both back doors are very visibly sticking up, as well as the B-pillar being warped or something, causing there to be a gap big around the seatbelt thing for my hammy fingers.
On top of that, the car is going to the dealer tomorrow because every time my mom parks in the garage there’s an alarming stench of gasoline.
This is getting borderline ridiculous on the quality control front. No car from 2014 should be slapped together like this.

cue incoming ford jokes.
let me get the obvious out of the way:
Found On Road Dead.
Jokes aside, that sucks. That car was bought new right? not CPO?

God help is if the EcoBoost was put together just as well...
The car had 1,200 miles on it when we bought it, but was considered new.

how many miles are on it now?
![]() 12/08/2015 at 19:46 |

13,000, I think. I know it’s higher than 10k but lower than 15k.

Just keep documenting the service visits. You have till 24,000 miles or 2 years to file for lemon law.
![]() 12/08/2015 at 19:48 |

Doesn’t lemon law require the same issue to be addressed 3 times? I guess I might need to read up on that.
![]() 12/08/2015 at 19:50 |

Yep, so if they don't fix it, just keep taking it back. It may even be able to apply to the issues with the trim if they have been unable to acceptably repair it over 3 instances.

Does this one have the optional heated trunk?

That’s a new one to me, but it’s brilliant.

Not meaning to sound arrogant, but Ford really needs to get their QC department in check. That’s completely unacceptable for a 2014 model.
Again not meaning to sound arrogant, but everything inside of my A6 fits together perfectly. No rattles, squeaks. Nothing.

That sucks! QC issues like that are reminiscent of Malaise Era cars. Shouldn’t be happening on a 2014 for sure.

Might as well talk to a lawyer. They should be able to give you a free consultation prior to taking on a case.
![]() 12/08/2015 at 20:08 |

No, they can’t do better. I remember my sister in law’s Expedition’s interior fabric was just cut out around the windows. No rubber trim or sown edging, just cut out. Same with plastics. My mother in law’s Explorer had one gigantic plastic side panel with a rough cut-out for the seat belts. Just sad.
![]() 12/08/2015 at 20:10 |

Oh, I totally agree. They should be embarrassed when I say my mom’s 2008 SATURN(!) was screwed together better.
![]() 12/08/2015 at 20:11 |

The leading edge of the headliner in this looked like it was cut with a dull blade. Frayed to all hell.

I’m not joking when I say both the Vue and my ex’s Taurus were put together with better attention to detail.

Makes them sound a bit like Chrysler, with their this.

That’s so strange, but not entirely surprising.
My old ‘99 Grand Am was built immensely better than my wife’s old ‘06 Malibu. The Big Three have made leaps and bounds in certain areas but still have hiccups in others.

If only she would’ve looked at a 6 or something else, or just bought the Impala like she wanted to...

I rode in a Ford escape today for the first time, not sure what year it was. I was kind of appalled at the crap looking plastic and trim. Even my CRV has much nicer textures and fitment of all parts.

<3 my 6
My best friend has an ‘08 Impala that has been and still is a great car overall. Some cheap-ish feeling bits but nothing excessive.

It kinda makes me wonder if she “tops off” her tank .

If it were up to me, she’d be driving a 6GT. But y’know, I don’t pay the note.
From an ‘08 Impala some cheapish bits are to be expected, probably a great highway cruiser though. It gets blow out of the water by the new one though.

Both me and my dad have told her enough times not to do that that it’s drilled into her head.

You should have seen the gaps on my 2013 ST....
![]() 12/08/2015 at 21:45 |

We looked at a 2009 Escape around 2008. What I remember most was pushing in the passenger airbag cover ~ an inch, and my dad almost ripping the roof rails clean off.

On the one hand, easy disassembly isn’t totally a bad thing when it comes to long term ease of ownership, since it makes maintenance and repair that much simpler. On the other hand, that wasn’t disassembly so much as the car simply not being actually assembled in the first place, more like a pile of parts thrown together in the shape of a car. The first gen 200 really was a total piece of crap, and the facelift version, sadly, was actually an improvement over the first one.

No offense, but GAH. That makes my ‘98 accord look like a Bentley in terms of build quality.
![]() 12/09/2015 at 08:48 |
|
It makes my ‘98 BMW that’s had a vast majority of its interior taken apart and back together upwards of 20 times in just the year I’ve owned it look like a Rolls. Ford should really be embarrassed they even let this level of terrible get through factory QC checks.

You can do better than this.
No, they can’t.
![]() 12/09/2015 at 14:03 |

Well there is also a consecutive days thing too. You have to be without the car for a period of time, actually Steve Lhetos article pointed some of this out to me. Might be worth a call to Ford Corp. if the dealership can’t fix the trim issues at least. They’ll assign you a case manager and likely reach out to the dealership directly.
