How does OPPO feel about the 1st Gen Cadillac SRX? Anyone ever own one?
I’ve always liked the styling and the ability to get it with a V8. I’ve always thought of them as what the CTS Wagon should have looked like (even though it’s a CTS wagon with a lift kit). I’ve been wanting a bigger vehicle lately and starting thinking....maybe we don’t need that tow capacity from the big Yukon. And if I don’t need to tow, this is pretty high up on my list.
Any experiences?

The problem is that the v8 that they give you is the north star.
One of my dad’s friends had one. Not a bad car, but it is on the same platform as the catera so beware

I just helped my boss source one for his wife. It’s a second gen though (2010 I believe). He picked it up with 40k on the clock for around 25k. (V6)
She loves it. However he has only had it for a few months, so I cant speak to the longevity, but it seems like a good car.

Well, it does have the Northstar. I’ve had experiences with that on Youtube.
Enjoy.

There is nothing wrong with the Catera or it’s platform, it’s been trued and tested in Europe for many years.

I have always liked the first gen Señor Equis.

Do you like electrical nightmares? Because this is how you get electrical nightmares! eriously, every first gen SRX I hear about is on the fritz all the time. It is as bad as a poorly maintained German car. And I’m sure a good one is nice, but most people who leased cadillacs didnt care. And the second owners just wanted a cadillac SUV but couldnt afford the escalade so they pay 99$/week at buy here/pay here places until it breaks.

That’s my exact joke name for it, just like the Toyota Mister Two*
*Mr. Two in Japanese would be more like “Ni-San,” ironically

I was temporarily infatuated with these during our search last year. It drove okay — a little numb and detached in the name of “luxury” but it didn’t have the interior materials quality to match the brand and pricetag, IMHO. It was a 2011, was falling apart inside, and Carmax said it was in their shop about every two weeks. When a salesman is talking down about a car, you take notice.
On paper, a RWD V8 wagon sounds great, though.

I have to admit that I stole this one. But it’s too good to just not use it.

I have been looking heavily at it’s sister the STS. Same platform and same engine I believe. I hear the V6 is so so but the N* is a lot better. No major issues with the longitudinal V8 from what I have read on the Cadillac forum . I would go there if I was you and do more research.

That’s disappointing.

nooooo not electrical problems, those are the worst

Bleh, I can’t stand the styling of the newer generation ones.

pro - decent drive, good power, tall wagon.
cons - not great to drive, GM interior, unreliable from what I’ve read.

Yea I have to agree with you. I like the harder lines of the older ones.

Unless there’s something I’m missing here, it’s not on the Catera platform.
Catera was built on the GM V or Opel Omega platform
SRX Gen 1 is on: Sigma 1 or GMT265
I certainly know there are mixed reviews of the Northstar though

HA, wow.

I’ve really only seen a complaint about oil burning. I’m not seeing a ton else.

I remember when these first came out I read two different reviews where there were troubles, one of which resulted in a flat tow. It could have been early production runs stuff though.

resulted in a flat tow or caused by a flat tow?
![]() 12/07/2015 at 14:15 |

resulted in.

hmm

Sigma, IIRC borrows heavily from the Catera Architecture.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

I drove one. It’s hot garbage.
![]() 12/08/2015 at 11:58 |
|
Really?
Is it garbage only in comparison to a 911, e46 and a Z06? Because if so that seems like a pretty harsh comparison to live up against lol
![]() 12/08/2015 at 22:43 |

Lol. Nah. I’m no snob. I’ve been DDing a ‘97 Tahoe lately.
It was just floaty, and felt heavy, and painfully boring. Just everything good enough with nothing exciting and no trace of character.
![]() 12/09/2015 at 12:02 |

Wow.
That disappointing. I haven’t driven one yet so I have zero counter argument.
I was looking at early 00’s Tahoe/Suburban/Yukons but the wife changed the game on me and said we might not need all that tow power. So I figured it would be more fun.
Sounding like a 6.0L Denali would be more fun, it’ll at least throw down the power.

You really can’t go wrong with a full size GM.
Another option might be a Trailblazer SS. Those things are fun.
![]() 12/09/2015 at 15:25 |
|
Ooo good thought.
The normal trim Trailblazers interior makes me want to hurt myself. I would need an Envoy Denali to make the switch...unless the SS is nice.
I’ve owned two S-10 Blazers as DD’s, as recent as an 04 - which was still nicer inside than most trailblazers
![]() 12/09/2015 at 15:31 |

The interior is nothing special. It is genuinely fun to drive though. The one I drove was AWD, and I got on it pretty good in the wet, and it behaved very well. I was impressed.
If you want to go full Jalop, you could even go Typhoon.
![]() 12/09/2015 at 15:34 |
|
No go on a typhoon, despite their awesomeness.
4 door requirement (because toddler). And my first truck had similar performance minus a turbo, it was a hopped up hand built 4.3L V6 in a 2 door 88 Blazer.
Only regret of my life was selling that truck.
I’m going to actually look up the SS though.

It’s worth a look

Craigslist says they’re all out of budget. (saw one with over 200k miles and they still want 11k for it, come on)
Will definitely keep in mind though.

Bummer

Pro tip- really fun craigslist search - under 150k miles, 8 Cylinders, 10k price limit

I’m scared. If I look, I’ll probably buy something.

GOOOOO LOOOOK
Bet you can’t find a classic Montego worth buying lol

Saab 9-7x Aero is like a (slightly) nicer SS. Good luck finding one in your price range though...
![]() 12/10/2015 at 09:12 |
|
Yeah but I think we both know Saab played with that truck instead of just slapping a badge on it, it was kind of their thing.
![]() 12/10/2015 at 10:43 |
|
Though I really shouldn’t, I really like the 9-7x since it kinda represents a European take on an all American truck...

Thats a cool perspective to take on it.
