When the last generation of Impala came out, I thought it was waaaaay too bland. Boring. Meh. Badly proportioned. Suitable only to be sold to Grampa’s. In Beige. Or to rental fleets, in White.
Now, though... I think the simplicity of the design is paying off. I belive the design is aging very well. Though I do have to say this is one of the few FWD cars I would recommend getting the “for looks only” spoiler on. Seriously. Check out these pictures. The ones without it are almost elegant, but still boring. The ones with the spoilers look well-proportioned, sleek and even muscular.

Hey, your pictures got Kinja’d. All I see is emptiness.

Most of them came from here.

They are tasteful because they are restrained. Like a VW Golf.
But I’ve seen very few for realz, because wrong side of the Atlantic.

I’ve always really liked that generation. Comfy, fairly quick for a large FWD car, and decent gas mileage (26mpg real world). Personally I prefer no spoiler, though.
It's one of the few cheap used throw-away cars I'd ever consider. I know a few people with nearly 200k miles on theirs.

One of these would be a pretty good commuter. 2011+ 3.6 V6 LTZ.

Huh? Sorry, fell asleep 2 pictures in.

I think you’re high.

A few years ago I'd have said lucky you. Now I'll say poor you.

Earlier LTZ with the 3.9 for me.
I love that engine.

Do you like the back of the Mercedes CLS? I can understand why you'd prefer no spoiler if that's the case. I don't like the back to drop off the way the Impala does, I like it to show some attitude. The spoiler completes it for me.

The good ones are at the bottom. I can understand the top three having that effect.

I think it's you this time. Kinja is picking on you.

In another 10 years when you see one of these and it still looks clean and new, you will be forced to change your mind. It will never look spectacular, but I now believe it to look good.

I can see the images fine. I was just saying it’s a beigemobile :)

I like the bottom 3, but you're quite welcome to your opinion. Still, Kinja IS probably fucking with you somehow, even if you haven't noticed yet.

Kinja fucks all of us. That’s a given.

I'd actually like to see a second LS4 stuck in the back of an SS for a really stupidcool AWD model.

Nope. It’s as miserable and shitty looking to me as the when they were first revealed.
I can’t even “fathom” where you’re getting muscular from. It has all of the muscular looks of a bread box.

We had one as a rental two years ago and it wasn’t as bad as I had expected it to be. The trunk was huge, the 3.6 had a nice sound and lots of torque. The only downside were the cheaper than cheap materials of the interior. And the horrible fabric they used for the seats that looked like an old dirty carpet floor.
![]() 12/07/2015 at 10:16 |

Nah, it’s awful. It’s not a good design in any way. It’s the visual definition of bland.

A friend had a fully leathered-up LTZ with the 3.9 V6. I have to admit the materials weren't great, but it was comfortable. It never did anything wrong, either, if it never got things quite right. Dat engine, too. Nice sound, bags of torque.

YOU WILL BE PERSUADED. It needs the spoiler, but then it's beautifully clean (though it will never be spectacular).

It really is the perfect cross-country vehicle. And the perfect car for my parents.

I’d have to agree. It’s not the best looking car in the world, but it’s not ugly. Just kind of plain. It’s aged well, though, and those cars are pretty durable. The only complaint I’ve ever had from riding in a rental one is I found the seats to be very uncomfortable.
![]() 12/07/2015 at 10:42 |

Yes, this. It’s a great road trip rental machine. And I was surprised at how good the engine sounds.

The key here is rental. I rode a few times in a full (even the middle seat in the rear bench taken) leathered-up LTZ Impala and had no complaints.

These are the unmarked cars that police in NYC use, so I hate them and I hated the previous gen with the circle lights for the same reason.

All the more reason to own one. Dechrome, fit steelies.

Lol everyone will move out of your way in NYC. I actually remember a guy having an older gen circle light impala who would do just that and he’d park it at the hydrant and never get a ticket.
