Hey guys, I recently started using this website that will pull history reports with no cost, no login, and no scammy way to sneak a VIN into a URL.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

It pulls the same reports you’re used to seeing, it just makes you wait about 30 seconds before it pulls it up. Claims that you can share to facebook/twitter/etc to get it instantly, I’ve never bothered though. Interesting vehicle? OK grab vin, throw into motosnoop.com then continue looking at the rest of the pictures.

Just thought I would share because I still see people post looking for free history reports.

UPDATE: A lot of you have said “What’s the catch?!” Well, there isn’t one. the website is abusing a Buick Dealer from NY’s autocheck account. If you check the source code after running, it manipulated the site to pull back info for whatever VIN you run. Example:

I highlighted in green the Buick website, I ran a couple VIN’s it seems like the only site it’s using to get access.

I haven’t found one yet and I’ve run at least 10 reports in the last couple weeks.

no need to input any information other than the VIN.

Seems legit. I bet some programmer got pissed off and didn’t want to pay for carfax lol

That’s my thought on it. I don’t have to work hard at all. I input the vin after the first pic, then go back when i’m done looking at the pics and bam- free report. Just found a rollback mileage vehicle.

I’ve run a couple and the info seems thorough enough! I ran a car I knew the history of and the registration information matches.

I used it to look up my old car. Looks like someone just bought it on November 18th, even with the Lemon title.

It appears to be just as solid as one of the other vehicle history sites. I think it might just be a hacked/abused autocheck account, because those accounts are unlimited. I mean, it even gives the AutoCheck Score.

lol, mine was a lease, auctioned, then sold, then repoed, then auctioned then I bought it.

shows a title correction for when I re-financed it because I had to change the lien holder on my title.

shows the accident I was in. I got rear ended once. It says

“REAR IMPACT WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE (Case #:XXXXXXX)

MINOR TO MODERATE DAMAGE REPORTED”

(actually shows the case #, no reason to include here though)

doubtful, Autocheck is an “Unlimited” account unlike Carfax so you can run them forever, I doubt that they’ll even get info on how many are run through there site. Unless it gets crazy overwhelmed or Karp Buick switches to Carfax lol

I actually discovered this like a week ago. I’m pretty sure my car has an accident on the CarFax but this one came back clean so I figured it was fake? All the info it did return seemed correct, though...

It’s legit. It’s just reporting through AutoCheck not through Carfax. It even has my accident from 2013 on my current car. Details on how it was a lease, then auctioned, then purchased, then repo’d, then auctioned, then purchased by me

Just looked up my previous car and it looks like somebody actually fixed up my old 3-series and is driving it around :’-) (it got destroyed by a drunk driver while parked)

Also noticed it shows a random accident in Wisconsin for it before I owned it, that’s probably a mistake lol

Has anyone tried to use it recently? when I tried to today it stated “Currently, we are unable to deliver full vehicle history reports. The above VIN check is accurate and provides minimal details of the car you are interested in, but at this time, we cannot provide you with specifics about this vehicle’s accident, lien or title history. We apologize for any inconvenience.” I wonder if it’s just a problem on my side or if the dealer whose account they were using shut them down.

I just got the same message, this happens every once in a while, they’ll snag another dealer account and be back online before you know it. Sucks when it happens though.
