I’m feeling a little frustrated and need to vent a little. I would post on Cigar Lounge but I don’t have authorship.

First let me say, yes I’m a white male so I do have white privilege. I can’t change where I come from or how I was born and neither can anyone else. I can’t relate to the struggles that a lot of minorities have but I feel their pain. It hurts to see so much hatred between races. Lines drawn in the sand. “Us versus them” mentality. Why is it so hard to embrace different cultures and backgrounds and see the similarities we have with each other? Whites, Blacks, Latinos, Asians, etc. All of us are human and should have empathy for one another’s struggles. If I could do anything to help my fellow humans I would do it but I don’t know how to help. Basically, why can’t we all get along? I don’t care what someone looks like, just how they treat me.

Let’s show each other respect and compassion regardless of socioeconomic status. This is America. The land where everyone can come together and be one.

I look at Prius drivers like everybody else. If they show respect I respect them. Plus if they are respectful it means they are probably driving it because it's cheap and gets good gas mileage and they aren't pretending it is saving the earth.

Racism is only an issue as long as profiteers like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton can make money out of it. Mellinials have grown up color blind(Myself included) and the “racism” is only being perpetuated by those trying to exploit minorities for political, or monetary power. I have only met 1 truly racist young person in my entire life.

The people that I’ve heard make truly racist comments towards POC are almost always people in their 60s, 70s, and older which I can’t really blame them for. They’re just a product of a different world than what we have today. Should they think differently? Of course they should but it’s not that simple.

Like you said, Millennials seem to have it right so far. Hopefully with some more time racism will be mostly gone for good. I don't think it's possible to eradicate completely though. You'll always have some crazies running around ruining it for everyone else.

See, I subscribe to the “if you’re cool and we get along, then I don’t see any reason why we can’t be friends” philosophy. I could not care less about someone’s appearance or whatever (although I’d appreciate if you smelled clean but I can deal).

I think this whole “I am [self-identifying group]” crap is such a ridiculous concept being popularized by my generation. You REALLY aren’t that special! Nobody gives a shit! And besides, you are helping the racist/prejudiced assholes by self-segregating and making your group even smaller. Strength in numbers. So why can’t we just all be part of a group of HUMAN BEINGS and just try and get along instead of trying to identify as a subset?

I agree with everything you said, whole-heartedly. If you’d like to help, go ask to volunteer for some non-profits in your spare time.

The YMCA is viewed as just a gym to many, but they also help underprivileged families with summer camps and after school care.

There are literacy organizations that help teach people how to read (many of the attendees are immigrants) and get GEDs. See if they need a tutor or help with fundraising events.

Even a few hours per month can make a difference. It's rewarding as hell.

While millennials are certainly far less racist, there are still plenty of racists among them. The one thing about all these younger generations is that they grow up with all colors, so they don’t have a reason to dislike them.People tend to become racist when they aren’t exposed to POCs when they are young or when their parents beat it into them.
