According to this article, it’s bad:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
But according to this fellow, turbo lag is good:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
So which is it!? I need someone to form the correct opinion for me!

Chris doesn’t say turbo lag is good, he says it feels good. He romanticizing crappy tuning and throttle response.

Turbo is kind of like bacon. When you get down to it, you run better without it, but it’s more fun with it. You just need to decide what you value more.

It’s bad. That one article is just looking fondly back on when turbos were special and quirky.

So basically like the zombie chick in Army of Darkness:
“I may be bad but I feel......(pregnant pause)..... gooood”

It’s bad. The whole point of a turbo in a production car is to boost efficiency, without sacrificing power.
I don't think he understands that, with a laggy turbo, the Ferrari would probably only make about 200-300 horsepower for the first 3000-4000RPM, which would sucks.

In pretty much any aspect its bad, but in certain cars, like my SVO and Fiero, it was so much damn fun feeling the boost kick in.

For a faster car you want more linear boost deliverance, but I think turbo lag is fun.

As a whole, lag is bad. That said, the first turbo car I ever drove was a bugeye WRX and it had significant lag and dammit it was so much fun to feel that kick when it came on boost. If you’re legitimately, or illegitimately for that matter, trying to go fast and you fall off boost, then its a major buzzkill.

it’s good, if you want to FEEL like your turbo is adding power. The surge when it finally comes on can be very appealing, but if the power is always there you don’t notice.
It’s like the singular crossover point of early VTEC, hit the right RPM and the sound is bananas. Now days variable timing is computer controlled, and like variably variable, not as fun.

I realize on an intellectual level that it can be eliminated and that it’s not needed, however I love the feeling of boost building up and riding that wave of power.

Turbo lag is like an obnoxiously short 1st gear or the over-sensitive throttles in a lot of modern cars that make them “feel faster” off the line.
Wait, maybe we need turbo lag AND both of the above, and it will all even out...

Romanticize all the old car things right? :p

Here’s your answer: turbo lag is FUN! But not good.
Growing up my sister had a 300TD with some lag. When the turbo kicked in my family called it warp speed. It was fun, but not “good.”
When I had a Mazdaspeed3 and I pushed down on the pedal and nothing happened for a few seconds and then suddenly I flew back into my seat, it was tons of fun, but not good.
Driving is about what’s fun for you. For some it’s that silly “warp speed” kicking in. For me, the most fun I’ve ever had was off roading my 60 hp classic mini on a course frequented by bros with jeeps and lifted trucks. Everyone’s different, just figure out what you like and go drive!

Turbolag isn’t ideal for a street car. For a track car it’s okay cause you’ll be keeping RPM’s in the power band anyway.
If you can reduce lag and keep the same amount of boost at the top end then you’re laughing all the way to the chequered flag

But even if your car has lag you can’t feel it because V12!

Wait, who still makes a car with turbo lag? Everything I’ve driven in the last few years spools around 1200-1600rpm.

Harrier?
Actually, why are we fighting? I’ve always felt a bit of an affinity between the Scandinavian countries and the UK. Both are European, but slightly outside of the Gallic core. Both have a disproportionately strong engineering presence for their small populations and both have a proud and illustrious car-making past that's been through a period of catastrophic decline and only now, recently, have the survivors picked up the pieces and become sizeable players again.

Yeah, my previous car was a 2003 Saab 9-3 aero. Lag for days
