I couldn’t even make it through the first episode before I bailed.

I’m in the middle of episode 7 as we speak. So far, I would give it 6/10 overall. The acting is decent, but just okay. As a history nerd, I was hoping for a little more depth into the society, tech, and infrastructure of the dystopian world and the strain between the occupiers, but it seems to be much more character-driven. Which is okay if the acting is amazing, but I’m just not quite feeling it. In 1962, the year of the book, it would have been amazing, but I guess my bar has been raised too high in recent years.
Hopefully it’ll do well and get picked up for a second season with a bigger budget and more characters.

Nope to busy killing Nazis in Wolfenstein.

I watched the pilot before it was picked up for an entire season. I thought it was decent, assuming they played up the alternate reality aspect. I recently subscribed to Prime (finally!), so I’ll be watching the rest as soon as I find the time.

Wow, that plane (Concorde?) looks freaking badass. They really captured the Nazi look.

Dodge Airflow, very nice. And immediately behind, a Chevy COE, and to the right, a barrelnose Ford.

I will be. I watched the pilot a while ago when that came out on Amazon. I’m in the process of moving right now so no time to watch shows.

The classic car wrangling they must have done to produce this is probably a story in and of itself.

I do know that The Leno has a large number of the exact ones in these pics. Did they tap him? I know he freely opened his garage for the producers of L.A. Noire. Or is there a 30s/40s car casting place out there? If so, some of these could overlap with some of the street fodder in Captain America.

As someone who read the book, I thought the show was way better. If this was a literature blog people would probably make death threats against me and post my parents address on twitter for saying that, but I feel safe here.

I just finished Ep. 7. The feels... But yeah all the American cars kinda surprised me.

I love the book (particularly the big reveal at the end), so the show was something I was quite nervous about. But, I’ll give it a shot, I suppose.

I liked it okay. The cars were awesome, and those Concordes, but I felt like the whole thing could have been told in a single movie. There are a whole bunch of extra little subplots that have very little bearing on the overall story, and by the end I was just frustrated with the pacing.

Loved the show.
did you notice how all of the German cars were period correct for the 1960s, but all of the american stuff was from the late 30s (and actually the 50s even though that era never happened in that universe)

My wife said the same thing, didn;t care for the book but loved the show.

I’ve gotta say, though — the set design and production logistics around two period-accurate, but different societies is pretty amazing. Great cars.

I enjoyed the book (or short story, I guess?), but I agree that the show is much better. The book left me wanting a bit more, but I guess that is Philip K. Dick’s way of writing. The ending was very similar to how he ended Total Recall, with the reader not knowing which reality was true reality. With “The Grasshopper lies Heavy” changing from a book (in the story) to a film (in the TV show), I feel like they are going to have to be significantly firmer on the ending, since the film as shown is effectively impossible to “create”.
I also wonder where they are going with The Man in the High Castle being the
collector
of the Grasshopper Lies Heavy works, rather than its creater.

I have been watching it, and it is truly incredible. The imagery of Nazis and the Imperial Japanese subjugating Americans literally makes me shake with anger. Very effective.
