The Dodge Journey still uses a 4 speed auto.

Huh. I thought the base model Toyotas were the only ones still using a 4 speed auto anymore. The Chevy Spark was, but now it’s a cvt if I recall correctly. Huh.

A terrible one if that... I believe it dates from the late 80s or early 90s Caravans.

Only the most basic 4-cylinders I think, and even those get the option of a 6-speed I'm pretty sure.

You have 1 too many rows of HAs. Unless you count reverse, then it would be AHAH.

What was it? If it was a lame front driver then probably yes. They were trying to clear the warehouse by that time.

Ironic because elsewhere (i.e. the new Jeep Cherokee) FCA is using a nine speed auto...

I was just thinking about the Journey today too; how it’s really just a Mitsubishi Outlander in Dodge clothes. The worst part for Mitsu is that the Journey seems like a better vehicle than the Outlander (which says a lot, because I think we can all agree that the Journey isn’t known for its greatness).

It’s a pre-FCA leftover so they probably have the tooling for it paid off. Plus, given how many vehicles in their line up used the old Daimler 4-speed automatic they most likely have a bunch of them left in the parts bin.

My ‘87 300D had a 4-speed auto, which by that time was no longer considered cutting edge. Fine for that car. Today? How many does an automatic really need? 7? Certainly not 9 ....

If this thing had shit tons of torque that wouldn’t be such a big issue.

You want something with a four speed automatic?
Have a little one, the Opel Karl/Vauxhall Viva/Chevy Spark. Mainly manual though it mus be said:
Want a much bigger one?

So does the Scion xB. 4-speed auto. There may be a few others that haven’t yet been updated as well.

To be fair in 1996 4 speeds were normal, but on a 2016 model it’s a bit odd.

It may well have done, but the Opel equivalent (which is the nearest one to me) didn’t. CVTs are unpopular on this side of the Atlantic.
