So, even if you haven’t had a 1980 C3 Corvette in college that loved to burn its wiring harnesses, this video will bring up all your bad memories of wiring fail

That’s was the funniest thing I’ve seen in ages. That dude needs to stay away from electricity as he just doesn’t have the eye for safety. I imagine that if he worked around cars, his safety habits and gasoline would probably be a fatal combination.
In high school and college I did drive an electrical nightmare of a Rabbit GTI. On at least three occasions the alternator failed and took the battery with it. After the third set died my mechanic finally changed the entire engine compartment wiring harness. Then there was the harness under the dash that had to be replaced. One night there was some crackling, sparks and smoke from under the dash, but I kept going due to a bad case of get-home-itis. Nothing like driving down the road on a cold, foggy, rainy night and losing everything electrical with the exception of the headlights and brake lights. No wipers, no heater, no running lights, etc. 30 miles driven with my head out the window with my foot on the brake (so people behind me could see me). All this on a car that was less than three years old.
In high school, I was part of the first physics class that was being taught at this school. On break before class a few of us found the parts to a Van Der Graaf generator and assembled it. It worked great, and the teacher decided to give a little demonstration with the lights out. It was a pretty cool show, especially after he shut the machine down and went to unplug it. He didn’t discharge it first, and got a lightning bolt from the dome straight to his nose. A friend of mine drew a little cartoon of that moment, something I still have 30+ years later. I’ve been tempted to scan it and send it to the teacher; as it turns out, he’s still teaching physics all these years later.
