This gem from 1974. Promoting the Mazda Luce RX4 Wagon, it simply has it all.
Firstly: Rotary powered woody wagon.
Secondly: The man in the floral shirt and white pants who is super excited about (presumably) his new Rotary powered woody wagon, and honestly who wouldn’t be?
Thirdly: The random, yet highly appropriate cow.
And lastly: The two other people there, who are just doing...I’m not quite sure.
I really want to know the context behind this photo, and how it came to be.
Also, I call upon Oppo to find a better press shot. I know it can be done, but by how much?

I feel like they had the people standing 5-6 feet back from the car to make it look bigger.

It’s a magazine spread shopped together. And Asian Dude sure looks like he’s taking a selfie with a cell phone. And the car is righthand drive, so my money is on this being an advertisement for the Japan market.
What they’re saying with this picture is the car is good for fuddy-duddy business family people as well as shwag-wearing hipsters.

I wish I had a stack of National Geographic magazines from the 1970s and 80s. They had tons of ads like this in them.

When I was in the 6th grade, my social studies teacher had a stack of old NatGeos and I was known to take the pictures of old Japanese SUVs. I lost all of them, though. I think my greatest find was a Suzuki X90 ad.

All I see is ‘71-’73 Mopar GTX/Roadrunner/Satellite nose. This is a good thing, Japan really did a good job mimicking American muscle looks.
