The CBC (Canadian Broadcast Corp) set up shop near Bowmanville Ontario on Ontario Highway 401 to record traffic speed. The speed limit is 100 km/h (62 MPH). 45,000 cars drove past their location in the course of 24 hours. 37,000 of them were speeding.
The speed limits in Ontario are unreasonable beyond belief.

If anyone would like to know, I too speed on the 401 but go slower than most.

... this has to be photoshopped. I know exactly where this is (401 between Yonge Street and Bayview), and have never seen it this empty. The only other explanation is construction. Or the apocalypse.

It’s time to raise it by 10 to 20, at least.
But then they would complain about the costs of updating all the speed limit signs, or something lame like “increase in accidents” bullshit.

According to the caption, in 2008 the 401 was closed along this section due to some propane explosions.

A) Your user name is ridiculous, and B I agree. Ontario is spending money out the wazoo anyways, we may as well make our roads a little safer as we go about it.

You honestly expect people to only go 60 on a road like this!?!?!

I vaguely recall that (my mum’s house is slightly right of the photo).

Prevailing speed of traffic is a thing. Who knew?

See you soon at aulde dubliner. Do you want any of my old car magazines?

Not particularly. I have too many of my own.

Yeah buddy, our speed limit is 37 mph now.

Most of the time, good luck going 100 km/h here. It gets super packed with traffic because lanes randomly join in and are terminated, as well as directly leading to the worst interchange in Canada, the 401-404-DVP. This bit of highway blows so hard.

My user name is the result of careful consideration to assimilate as a true jalop. I’m as grounded to the ground like the ground grounding itself to itself.
Back on topic, I also believe that raising the speed limit will actually make the highways safer. My only remaining concern is that of lane-etiquette, which many motorists of today still have no real concept of.

U.K. speed limits are 70mph(112kph) on motorways and 60mph(96kph) on ‘A’ roads and dual carriageways.
Though after dusk on the motorway in my county the majority are doing between 90mph(145kph) and 120mph(193kph).

speed differential is the danger not total speed I agree.
My first car was a 1988 corolla. I like toyota’s from the 80’s but not much else by them.

Going 120 mph on the motorway is dumb at night. How can you see if there is a moose?

A buck twenty or bust on 400 series.
Buck thirty on 407.

True enough about the speed differential, hence lane-etiquette comes into play.
I have no issues with Toyota, but I must serve my civic duty as a true jalop by hating on them for no rational reason whatsoever. I also hate Lexus only because they stole my ugly face as their corporate grill without permission or compensation.
I deserve an LFA at the very least.

Lane etiquette isn’t that bad once you get east of Bowmanville. In the populated areas is a crap shoot :)
(At least semis don’t hog the left lane though)

Normal people: “Clearly the speed limit is set way too low on that section of road.”
Idiots: “We need to ticket all of these people that are breaking the law!”

Lol. We don’t have any wild moose in Cumbria.
To be fair there are stretches where there is nothing at all (but scenery).

Experts agree that the faster a car is going, the more dangerous accidents can be.
Experts also agree that the Pope is Catholic and bears shit in the woods.

I don’t know about you but I don’t see 150km/h as dangerously fast. Texas has speed limits that approach 140km/h.

Does Canadia or that area have a “prevailing speed” clause, by which you can fight tickets or petition for increased limits based on the average speed of traffic on a given road? I know some US municipalities do.

I have never been on the 407. I like to go 110 on the 401, and stick to the right side. Even though I am a slow poke....I am still speeding haha.

130 is actually what the majority of cops set their radar at on 407 (for the type where they just set a speed and sit back and have a donut while they wait for it to go off). So maybe go 128.
I'd never heard of that, but my brother-in-law was told that when he got pulled over once.
