No, not
that
kind of swinger. And if you are
that
kind, please keep it to yourself. I’m talking about those people who swing out to the right when making a left turn, or vice versa. These people drive me nuts.

Only when turning right into a parking spot. I don’t think there is any other way to get in between to cars unless you backed in I suppose.

Many summers of working for a lawn care company (and driving a truck and trailer) have me still taking corners wide. I don’t really swing out, but I go long into the corner and then pull back up alongside the edge.

Scandinavian flick bro.
also, bikes HAVE to counter steer to turn :)

Trailers are different. I’m talking about cars.

apex bro.
I do it on one intersection downtown where there is a foot high curb and the standard tire width is a washboard from truck traffic.

If it’s on a curve that has a radius of ~20 feet that you can only go ~10mph through, and there isn’t a car coming through the corner the other direction, then yeah I’ve done that a few times to get through the corner easier. Any other place, no.

Parking lots don’t count. And, since I’m just crazy that way, I always back in when I can. It’s easier when your trailing wheels are doing the steering.

No, if you do that you miss the apex

I’m a swinger, but only when I’ve got the big trailer on.

Yes, it's a habit from driving my Vic, if you turn to tight you miss curbing with the fronts but will hit the curb with the inside rear wheel so I almost always do it in tight lower speed turns into parking lots and driveways etc.

“Oh my God it’s not a semi!” is something you’d hear a lot if you ride in a car with me.

Yes and no. You get to guess which one goes with which question.

“not that kind of swinger. And if you are that kind, please keep it to yourself.”
That’s not the way it works though. I’m told.

If I’m in a truck and the corner is tight...

No curbs where I was talking about. This is the intersection. Driving east on Wells Branch Parkway, turning left (north), two lanes turn left (see the dotted line?). Guy in #2 lane (in a car) swings into straight lane before making his left turn.

Special circumstances don’t apply. I’m talking cars at a big intersection.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 18:25 |

I prefer backing in aswell but then it’s just impossible to load that cart full of groceries into your trunk.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 18:26 |

No need to swing at a large intersection unless you have a trailer. :/
![]() 10/28/2015 at 18:30 |

Right. Never back in at Coscto.

Ugh my wife does this (the turning) and it drives my nuts!
![]() 10/28/2015 at 18:34 |

Holy hell I can’t stand these people! At a crowded downtown intersection it is NOT necessary for you to pull half way into my lane to execute your left turn. stop it!
![]() 10/28/2015 at 18:43 |

Only parking spots. I don't get why people do that. It's like a feint of sorts
![]() 10/28/2015 at 18:44 |

I was saying that I do it even in my Jetta, with no trailer.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 18:46 |

Only when driving something very, very large.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 18:46 |

Please stop. ;)
![]() 10/28/2015 at 18:47 |

Exactly. If you are driving a car, don’t. It’s annoying. And unsafe.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 18:48 |

Long Haul drivers are notorious for doing this in their 4 wheelers. That and stopping at low bridges haha.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 18:53 |

Oh, then no
![]() 10/28/2015 at 19:25 |

ABSOLUTELY NOT when there is other traffic that might misinterpret my intention.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 19:36 |

The only time I swing wide to make a turn is when I’m driving one way along a divided parkway/boulevard and need to make a left turn, but there’s a stop sign in the median before I can proceed across the other half of the divided street. In Seattle, for example, if I’m heading north on 14th Ave NW and want to turn left at NW 56th St, it’s a rather narrow median, so I turn on my left blinker and swing slightly right before turning left.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 20:04 |

If I could star this 100 times I would. It’s especially bad when you have narrow lanes and some idiot almost side swipes you because they can’t manage to turn correctly.
![]() 10/28/2015 at 20:11 |
|
But, he's the only guy on the road! How dare you drive where he wants to be?!

No
my biggest peeve is when people cross over the stop line when turning. It’s even more dangerous in areas with multiple lanes as the turning driver can’t see the turn lane they are about to cross.

gotta do it to do that inertia drift bro
![]() 10/29/2015 at 05:13 |

no.

Oh you mean like the people who think they are driving a semi when in reality they are driving a Corolla?
Like the one who nearly took me out earlier today by swinging out back into the fastlane before turning?
Fuck those guys.
