I feel like I’m cheating on my wife or something just as awful. My 2013 VW ‘Wagen TDI 6MT is heading to the local GM dealer in exchange for a big shiny truck that gets way worse mileage and pollutes way more.
I feel like I’m ditching my friend when (s)he found out (s)he has cancer. Going with her are a nice set of replica wheels with some good fresh rubber, that I’ve enjoyed a couple seasons in, and a bunch of Euro parts I swapped on because I never expected to be swapping cars so quickly. Maybe a skid plate, too. Not sure how lazy I’ll be feeling tonight. Parts will be on eBay soon (including stock wheels).
I feel like I’m probably doing what’s best for me. Though I only had her for two years and 30-some-odd-thousand miles, it was a car I was always both in lve with and infuriated by. It could get most projects done, but not all. The torque was a blast, but it was still slow as hell. It looked great, but had VW build quality so squeaks, rattles, and a CEL were always expected. Thanks VAG!
I feel like I’m excited, but anxious. My truck will be nice. I got a pretty good deal on it, all things considered. It won’t be nearly as fun as the wagon, but that’s why there’s an old FIAT in the garage now.
I feel like I’m disappointed. I’m not willing to wait it out and find a fix. Frankly, I preferred my Hondas and Acuras over the VW. The truck will make more sense and I wanted to get one soon anyways; the emissions scandal is just forcing my hand a bit earlier than expected.
Goodbye...

VW forced your hand!

Silverado or Sierra?
Also, inb4 people complaining you’re trading in a diesel manual wagon for a truck

“and pollutes way more.”
I mean, prolly nah.

Sierra 1500 SLT Crew Cab, w/ Z71

Still feels like abandonment. Stupid VAG.

That’s getting kind of old.

Nice! The current gen GMs are really nice. The crew cabs are absolutely huge inside, too. Consider me jelly.

Only when they’re testing them.

Absolutely. They look great and are almost as spacious as my house.

Even if the truck pollutes more, at least its honest about it, right? It never pretended to be environmentally friendly, it's just a hard-workin', hard-drinkin', hard-fartin' man's truck. Someone at my work just recently got the Sierra 1500 and they're nice looking vehicles. I'm not really a truck person (I love my small cars) but I feel like if you're a truck person, you're really spoiled for choice these days (unless you want a smaller truck).

Multiple CEL’s on a 3 yo car and 30K miles. Doesn’t VAG realize this probably isn’t acceptable in this century?
Nice truck btw.

Beautiful truck.
And are you sure it pollutes more?
A cheating diesel vs a properly emission controlled gas....?? I don’t know. I’m not VAG bashing (lol) just saying it might not be that bad
![]() 10/28/2015 at 10:33 |

The truck actually doesn’t pollute way more; in fact, it actually pollutes way less.

Crew cab with a short bed? Why are you selling the wagon again?
Traitor...

VW build quality so squeaks, rattles, and a CEL were always expected. Thanks VAG!
That sucks... I was just musing yesterday about how my 2001 Passat is still so much quieter inside than our brand new Honda Odyssey.
Varies Widely, indeed.

My Jalop cred is intact with the ‘78 Spider.

Pick your poison, NOx, Smog or CO2? Production pollution or operating polution? The answer is never simple.

Yea, the Golf base as far as I can tell is the downfall of the car. Lots of unfinished surfaces compared to my Acura that I traded in on the ‘Wagen. Then again, that’s why it’s so much cheaper... Imo, the Passat is really an upmarket car for VW. Glad yours is treating you well.

I’m probably exagerrating, but figured I’d get that out of the way before someone in the comments gives the whole “durrr, trucks are burning down the rainforest.” One would think there is safety is Oppoland, but idiots are hiding everywhere. ;)

Yeah, but the wagon......

I know. I will absolutely miss it, but the truck will be better for everything at home and I can actually tow with it.
(Tongue rating on the wagon was like 300 lbs.)

What size are the whisbars? s44?
![]() 10/28/2015 at 11:48 |

S53 iirc... I can measure just far they extend and contract later tonight. They will not be traded in with the car so if you are in the market, let me know if they work for your car.
Otherwise they’ll be on eBay and/or Vortex.

We are also about to buy a Chevy truck I think, used of course.
Suburban for people hauling & eventually toy hauling. Still looking at all the options but that’s what we keep going back to.

What all did you have on it? Parts? PRICES???

Unfortunately, I’m probably trading most of the stuff in still on there because I really don’t feel like taking apart the center console apart to get the covered cupholder out nor dropping the bumper to get Ed’s headlights back.
Things I know are in my attic:
Candy White Mirror covers (or I could swap the black ones off nad trade it in with the white ones)
Full set of stock wheels/tires
Whispbars (S53, iirc)
Standard cupholder
Standard Headlight Switch w/o Fogs
Clear or Amber Cornerlights (those are easy to swap)
DieselGeek Panzer Plate (you’ll need a hardware kit for some of the press mount fittings)
If you actually want anything we can swap emails. Leave your adress and I’ll shoot you a message. I’ll cut you a deal as a fellow Opponaut. I already sold my snow tires and the all weather mats to cover the tonneau cover. ;)

Don’t have any money (at the moment, trying to sell a set of wheels) but I’d be interested in the skidplate! I would have been interested in the headlights, but since you don’t want to pull everything apart I won’t worry about it..

Oh and the guy was wondering what the red switch does

Ha! The one in the coin tray now does nothing; it was wired for my emergency lights - I’m a firefighter.

Ah I see! He’s looking at putting Tiguan springs on it now haha
And it still has the Audi Rotors and clear corner lights on it! That’s how I recognized it

Those were the best-looking wheels, lol. My attic is still full of parts for it... I really need to hit-up eBay.

I’m surprised it didn’t end up completely stock to be honest

I can’t believe you found it. I actually had to put those VW center caps on a lathe and take a bit off the edge to get them to fit right.

The place i traded it in at actually loved the way it looked and I ran out of time to take stuff off - it’s pretty much set up exactly as I ever wanted it, minus a tune.

I figured I would just let you know... I guess I got lucky
