Already disappointed...

I can’t decide if I’m happy for Honda that they executed on their target so well...or if I’m upset with Honda for choosing the target that they did.
I can’t help shake the feeling that this is the car that would result from someone saying “build me the best accord coupe you can, money is no object”

I love the 90’s throw back of the NSX decals in the side windows.

I think it is an excellent car, but doesn’t make sense anymore. They were too far into development to throw it away, or move it ahead. Now it’s coming in when everyone else is moving on. New R8, 911 Turbo S, and out of nowhere the 570S which is a legitimate fun to drive supercar that’s called a sportscar. I think McLaren killed the NSX. Not the upcoming GTR, AMG GT-S, i8, etc.

thats kind of what they did here. sure its a fast sports car but it was held back on purpose to make it “not a ferrari” and in doing so they neutered it against the best of the world

I quite like it. The styling is a bit derivative, but underneath it’s a Honda.

Should have went balls to the wall.
Flat plane V8, 9k RPM, 1100HP, smash the 918. Why not. It’s not like you can use this to make people aspire to all those other sports cars honda makes right now. Seriously, if you want something sporty from Honda, you can buy a Civic Si, or you can trade 7x Civic Si for an NSX. You next best option from honda beyond the Si is this, which is $140k away. That’s a bloody big ass gap, Honda!
I know restraint is kind of the Japanese thing to do. They did it with the S2k. They did it with the original NSX. Their competitors did it with the GT86 twins to the chagrin of the whole world. And yes, this will probably be one of the only really fast sports cars you can comfortably put 200k+ miles on that isn’t from america and V8 powered. But you know what? Fuck all that. Load those balls into a cannon bigger than the LHC, point it at Germany, and turn that wall into gamma rays. You make enough reliable efficient cars already. Honda...I WANNA SEE YOU GRIT THOSE TEEEEETH

I like it too, I hope it depreciates like a v12 Mercedes. Though Honda’s haven’t been as reliable as the used to be, especially in transmissions, and I have a bad feeling this thing will have the same Achilles Heel as the GTR.

I think its an acura RL coupe in reverse.

I’ll basically summarize for those of you who didn’t watch: it’s acvery fast car, but doesn’t drive like a raw, purpose built car such as a 911. It’s still a good driver, but it’ll likely be a similar drive to something somewhat sporty but not quite a sports car, like an Audi RS7 or a VW GTI. At least that’s how I interpreted it.
Oh, and that blue is gorgeous.

What’s the GT-R Achilles Heel?

It really is a pretty car. I kind of see it doing the same thing the RC-F did to the M4. Being this kind of Touring Car with track ability rather than a Sportscar with street ability. The Maserati Granturismo was the same way when it came out years and years ago, and in the same way, comparisons will stop after the first year.

Transmission, Tavarish called years back and it’s turning out to be true and early GT-R values started tanking finally due to it. Honda and Nissan have been having especially bad luck with new and high performance transmissions.

Because it was “driven” several years ago by Seinfeld and company, and it’s still not on sale.

Makes sense - that sort of power is hard to handle, even with AWD. I wonder what Nissan’s position is if you approach them for compensation. Toyota split the cost of a faulty 5M with me slightly out of warranty, but I had to make some noise.
