Welcome to Generation Gap where we ask you about your favorite generation of a certain multi-generational car nameplate. Then, explain why your choice is right to the rest of us uneducated folks.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

The Impreza has long been the poster child for bad drivers who touted its 4WD system as it was the only thing that kept them on the road. Wanted a Subie sedan but couldn’t stand the stigma? The Legacy/Liberty (for Aussies) was there for you; generally a more refined and elegant brother of the Impreza, the Legacy/Liberty came with even bigger engines (even a flat six later!) and the same 4WD confidence. Which generation would you have?

The options:

First Generation [1989 - 1993] (BC, BJ/BF) and facelift

Second Generation [1993 - 1998] (BD, BG/BK)

I’ve owned a 1st and a 2nd, and as a family we’ve owned 5 (I think, maybe 4) of the 3rd gen. I’d get another 3rd gen in a heartbeat

It’s a hard choice, but I’m going to have to go second gen, because BG5 GT-B.

Kinja'd!!!

I love those seats, too.

I personally like the fourth and sixth generation the best. They have the most appealing design to my eye.

Finally one where I have more experience in than just the one gen

I have spent significant time with all of the gens excep fifth. And a reasonable amount of time with the sixth.

Hands down the prettiest for me is the 4th. I am still a huge fan of the 3rd gen B4/GT twin turbos. But they haven’t aged quite as well.

One of my best mates had a second gen JDM GT Wagon for years. When it was running properly it was effing quick. But by the time he got it it had had a hard life though.

My twin has a first gen and its lovely, can be had for dirt cheap because people are scared of the HG’s.

My mum had a 3rd gen for years. Absolutely solid and the only things changed in it for 130kkms were standard consumables.

A mate if mine just bought a 6th gen 3.6 and its absolutely brilliant too.. Comfy and way more luxurious than any of the other gens leather versions.

But for me, 3.0 or GT 4th gen Wagon would be excellent.

Excluding the outback wagon there is but one answer. The 3rd gen. Specifically in outback trim. While hell yeah flat 6 the truth is because dual tone. Fuck I miss dual tone paint jobs.

Me too. It was new when I was just getting into cars back in ‘05 and a Leggy wagon was on top of my list of cars I want...not that it isn’t still...

6 is a bit overstyled IMO but it looks great with a mesh grille like on m-b-w’s Outback...

I’m meh on two tone but I do like the Outback sedan...like the new S60 XC, looks so wrong but right at the same time...

I guess you missed this Generation Gap... and I’d prefer a stick shift turbo 740 wagon myself...

Yes! 4th gen is a design miracle, classy and understated without being Camry bland...Subie designers nailed it back in ‘05, but since then everything is just so overstyled, like that front lip of the 6th gen Leggy pictured...why must this happen? If it looked more like the Levorg then I wouldn’t be complaining...

Your car is the only 6th gen I approve of because no flared bumper and a mesh grille complete the package so well...

Fourth is super clean and classy. Sixth looks better as a Levorg.

The Levorg is more Legacy than the current Legacy is. Levorg 2.0 turbo with a manual would be right up my alley. IF THEY MADE ONE

With a turbo? Because spinny metal thing with teeth that makes good noizes and make car go fast and break a lot.

Thanks. Originally I liked the sedan front bumper better, but the cladding has grown on me. The grille is intended for the sedan’s bumper, but fits the Outback bumper just fine.

How’s it on interior space? I heard you’re 6’10”, and when I sat in one at the auto show I really liked it.

I believe so. I think they’re only importing 50 examples to the U.S. though, and only in T5 guise without the new twincharged fours. It is definitely quite high for a sedan...

I fit really well. I did have to get a model without the moonroof, as that made headroom way too tight. If you're tall, I'd highly reccomend one.

I’m 6’8” and the Outback and Forester were among my favorite cars when I sat in them at the car show.

I honestly don’t remember. However, I do remember it being a tiny bit bigger inside than the Outback.

To me, the Fozzy felt just a tiny bit bigger inside, but it may just be seating position.
