Afternoon, Oppo. It’s been a looooong time since I’ve done one of these.
The rules are simple. I’ll give you three clues regarding the subject aircraft and the first to correctly identify it wins. The prize? As my mom always said, “The satisfaction of a job well-done.”
Note: The aircraft in the lede image IS NOT the subject aircraft.
On to the clues!
Clue #1: This aircraft took its first flight in the same year that Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were tried for and convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage.
Clue #2: This aircraft was the last design to bear the name of its manufacturer.
Clue #3: This aircraft was succeeded by an aircraft whose initials form the name of a fish belonging to the order Anguilliformes.
EDIT: Aero wins it with a correct answer of Gloster Javelin. The Javelin was an all-weather interceptor that served Britain’s Royal Air Force from 1956 to 1968.
Until next time...

Thanks, I used to try to do them once a week, but they kind of fell by the wayside as I got busy with other things. I’ll try to get one out a little more regularly.

That’s actually an A-36 Apache. It was a ground attack variant of the P-51 Mustang. I think it’s the only flying example in the world.
