to give a veteran Opponaught a burner account and start a post wherein people would ask only car related questions to attempt to divine the burner’s true identity. The veteran Opponaught would be required to answer all questions and to answer the truthfully. Of course, they can obfuscate the answers to their black heart’s content.

I’d be more than happy to create and pass out burners to users if a mod will be willing to give them authorship. I don’t know if that’s even necessary.

Fun idea, but we actively discourage the use of multiple accounts per individual in any way - and that’s one of the things we’re very serious about. I know you mean well and wouldn’t abuse it, but others would, and it would create a gigantic mess that would be very difficult to clean up.

For the time being, yes. Until something can be worked to where we can guarantee that the burner accounts are not misused in any way. I’ll give it some thought and see if I can think of something, and get back to you this afternoon.

It’s a difficult thing to track, and that’s part of the reason why we are so very serious about it. In truth, it’s theoretically possible to create one and keep it hidden forever and none of us would know. But if we ever did find out, it likely result in a banning of all related accounts - including the primary account.

The problem is that that rarely happens - it’s usually pretty easy tell, and we’ve gotten better and better at watching behaviors and sniffing out duplicate accounts - the number of them active has dropped dramatically.

Put simply, the use of multiple accounts opens up far too many opportunities for abuse, and several such abusive alternate accounts are what started our crusade against them. Once we pieced together who they were, they were permanently banned from Oppositelock.

For now, delete those alternate accounts. I’ll try to think of an alternative - perhaps a single, mod-run alternate account. I don’t know right now, but I’ll try to figure something out and get back to you.

I’ve brought this idea up in the moderator forum, and after some discussion of the potential for alternatives, there is essentially a quorom against this. It just presents too many difficulties with the potential of the people that the accounts are issued to to abuse them. It would be a fun idea, but it’s just not real practical. There was the idea stated above about the possibility of a single, mod-run account, but that requires someone to actually take the time and administer it; no one is really willing to do that.

I’m not trying to knock you or anything, as I know that you would never mean harm in any way. For a lot of reasons, though, this is just a no-go.
