Went into Hobby Lobby for red model paint, to fancy up my winter wheels as Monkey Puzzle recommended.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
And ended up leaving with one of these:
Buddy/co-worker bought a model too. Colleague bonding exercise with model cars and beer!

When I was in the Army, a friend of mine build a radio-controlled helicopter from an elaborate kit. We were never entirely successful getting it to fly, but it ran...
At the same time, I bought a plastic model of a Siskorsky Sea Stallion helicopter and built it and brush-painted it camouflage and I think I managed to not get any glue on the windshield pieces. Lots of guys complimented me on it, but my pal simply said, “Mine flies, mother$%#^er.”

Lol nice.
I was tempted by a Corsair F4u-4, but went with the old Bel Air instead.

Did you watch this 1320 street race video ? Your models clone is in here towards the end.
You should do it up like this guys. Nice choice

Just FYI, I added you to 1:25 to life so you can post updates on the model in that venue. I haven’t been able to work on mine in like a month and a half, but it’d be nice to see some activity there.

Cool! I’ll probably do it the weekend after this one over at my buddy’s place. He will be building a model too. Think he got a ‘69 GT500.
I’ll be sure to post there as I go!

When I was younger I was always building model cars. Just a few days ago I was browsing online for some to build and display in my man cave. Really want to do vintage Formula One cars but the ones I've looked at look so intricate and difficult. But I don't mind a good challenge.

Just looked at the blog, I like it. I've been wanting to get back into the model kit hobby. Did a ton when I was a kid. So much fun.

Shared to LaLD! Can’t wait to see the progress.

Have fun with that one. What colors?

So... stock or drag?!

Yay! I love these, especially the 2n1 versions. Good find!

Not quite sure yet.
Definitely wanna make it look like an old hot rod, but not sure if that means trying to replicate a factory color or picking something new. Been looking at Google images of Bel Air drag cars/hot rods/gassers instead of working for the last 30min or so. haha

Oh, drag for sure! haha

Right?!
As my girlfriend said in her sarcastically patronizing text, “Who doesn’t LOVE optional drag car parts?!”
lol

I bought a lot of them as a kid. Only ever finished one that I can remember. lol

I’ll have to do my build write-up on my personal page and share it to LaLD and 1:25-Life

That would be sweet.
I wouldn’t mind an old Lotus 49 to put at my desk. Perhaps use some velcro adhesive or double sided tape to center it in the middle of the ‘Ring track sculpture that adorns the left side of my cube.
Then get one of these to go under my monitor.

Street car with drag mechanics, interior, and wheels.... I get you bro lol

The ones I am looking at are 1:12 scale. You would think the bigger kits were easier to build, right? I’m just not sure I want to dive in on a kit that costs 80-120 dollars, but the finished models I’ve seen look so good.

If I was dropping that kind of money I’d likely go for a Lego F40, LeMans car, VW Type 1 Camper, or something Star Wars related. haha
But a larger scale model would be cool. I imagine it’s larger just so it can have way more parts for more complexity/intricacy. haha

That LeMans Lego car is badass. My brother and his girlfriend’s son just built one. That thing is enormous.
And true on that. Like miniature bolts, lol.

I used to build a model a week when I was a kid. Back then they were 2 bucks for average AMT, Monogram, or even Revell kits. I went to Michael’s the other day and saw the same kits for an average of $30!

My co-worker made a comment as to how they were about $6-8 back when he was buying them as a kid.
I’m 27 and I still remember spending like $12-15 for most kits at Michael’s when I was a kid.

I’m an old, so I was buying them in the 60s. Even into the early 70s they were pretty cheap. If you bought through Auto-World’s catalog, you could save even more. I miss their assortment of customizing products, all in one place.
