So, my dad’s truck is nearing the end of its life, with 260k on the clock, It’s almost time for a new one, so the search has yet again begun, for the next daily. The big question here though is new or used? He currently drives a 2011 Ford F250 Lariat Ultimate Edition, with the 6.7 Powerstroke that he purchased brand spanking new in 2010, and has already gone through one motor (@205k) Last night, he emailed me asking what my opinion was on the matter. Here’s the thing, though. There is an alternative that he is considering, instead of just buying the new generation of the $70k Luxo-truck. A very good alternative. I would put it up for a vote here on oppo to let you guys decide, but I can probably guess the outcome without much difficulty. The pictures are up top.. And yes, it is a stick.. $60k with 14k on the clock, fully loaded. I told him it’s a no brainer, DD the -V and keep the truck for weekend use/when he needs to tow and do truck stuff..

He should buy a diesel if he's doing that many miles so he can drive the truck to 500k

Seems like a waste to drive such expensive vehichles if your putting 50k miles a year on them. I think if I was driving that much I would get something comfortable and reliable. Nothing wrong with spoiling yourself I guess. A 335i or a C-class would be great for eating up the miles if you didn’t want an accord or camry.

Exactly.

I’m not so sure a sporty car like the CTS-V (as good as it is) would make it anywhere near that long.

Really? And he’s seriously thinking about buying another one? I’d have thought that’s a lesson you only need to learn once.

I honestly am not in love with this car like everyone else, I’d get a scatpack Charger instead. But for that many miles a year:

Kinja'd!!!

NA LS in a chassis that should have every kink worked out. Should work for a long time.

Get it with a stick and have your unicorn factor too.

Can you get that with a stick? Thought it was auto-only

I mean if he’s looking, any Pre-DEF diesel would do him good. GM 2008-2010 Dmax would do him good, or a 2013 or earlier RAM Cummins. I’m not that into the PowerStrokes (save the 7.3), and if his 6.7 even bit the bullet once already... (usually they just need a bigger turbo)

As someone already mentioned, if he isn’t planning to haul, save the truck and have him get whatever he’d enjoy for DD duty (see DDD) the V-Hoonicorn would always be a fun choice.

IIRC is was auto only, only for the first year. 99% sure you can get it a stick in it now.
