Ok, so need help finding a car for my friend. Budget is $6-8500 and requirements are a four-door that is preferably somewhat sporty? Manual is kind of a maybe option for him, he hasn’t owned one before and isn’t sure that he wants to dd one. So shoot me some ideas here!

Edit: Also needs to be reliable, get decent gas mileage, and not have over 120k.

I feel like you could get into a decent WRX for that money, but I know next to nothing about them so ?

2001-2006 Ford Focus. If you can find one, the Street Appearance Package adds a bit of attitude. Avoid the SP engine, it’s garbage.

The 08-11 Focus is also a decent car.

Mazda 3 hatch. Is the most reliable and best handling. 08 model 2.3 should fit in there perfectly.

Isn’t a solid answer always the Mazda3? My sister got a 3 year old sedan for about $10k I think and she really likes it.

Autotragic, though.

On the flip side, I helped someone find a new one in manual and she fell in love with it. Should be fun and fit the bill.

Ah, I’m sure you could find one under 120k depending on your local CL. might even have a new engine too ;)

Other than that... The four doors are throwing me. Maybe a Mazda 3?

Manual transmission Mercury Milan or Ford Fusion, that is what I am thinking of for myself in the $5-$6,000 range.

just make sure you follow the scheduled maintenance. engine rebuild every 60k ;)

Mazda 2 is pretty reliable 5 door. cheap to run and fun to drive.

60-80 k miles you will have to have the heads walnut shelled on anything direct injection (turbo models mainly). I would get something with the N52 engine if you go newer. Haven’t had any complaints about mine in the 128i.

have you noticed any missing power? I drove an older 135i before and after walnut shelling and it was night and day.

Also maintenance has nothing to do with it, its more the fact that fuel doesn’t wash the valves on a direct injection engine like they do on mpfi systems.

I don’t know, since I’ve only driven about 1000 kilometers with it so far.

How much does it cost to get done? Maybe I’ll do that.

The selling the Lexus IS is one of the best options. Those are incredibly reliable engines. That IS drives very, very well. A set wheels with snow tires and it would be just fine in the winter.

Tough to find an e39 with mileage that low, which we all know to be the best used car you can buy. You could go e46 330 sedan.
