Chalk this one up to user error...BUT...this does show an issue with partial autonomy; Autonomy works or it doesn’t but the drivers mental state doesn’t change either way. What I mean by that is that partial autonomy is dangerous because by definition its not autonomous enough to be left unattended completely BUT the operator who puts trust in the system is putting absolute trust in the system or at least enough trust that they are effectively taking themselves out of the loop far enough that coming back in might be too little too late. With autonomous cars, its my opinion that its all or nothing.
