That time of year is creeping up on us... the time where we drink too much eggnog (yuck), go see the family we don’t talk to the rest of the year, and make fun of co-workers ugly holiday sweaters behind their backs.

I’m already trying to think of gifts for people in my family because everyone is so damn hard to buy for. But no one is worse to shop for than my father. But this year I’m already beginning to form an idea. He’s in the process of wrapping up a multi-year long basement remodel project and looking to buy a sweet home theater system - we’re talking 70” TV, surround sound, etc.

I got thinking about how awesome it would be to play some video games on that setup when it hit me... My dad’s played some of the older Forza games with me when I was living at home, and he thinks they are really neat, but he hates using the controller. I think he would do much better with a wheel and pedals, so I’m thinking about giving him my old XBox 360 that I don’t really play anymore and building him a rig.

I just play with the controller, I’ve never given any serious thought to a rig of my own so I’m not sure where to start. That’s where you some in, great gamers of Oppo -

What’s a good wheel/pedal setup to buy?

Is there anything that’s compatible with both the 360 and the XBOne? (I might want to borrow it sometimes)

Any advice on making it compact or portable? My parents have a pretty small house, this theater is going to take up half the basement, which my mom is already pretty pissed about. I need something that be easily disassembled and stowed in the back or something.

Anything else I should be considering?

Hooniverse had a good article on a wheel, but it was like $400, but has force feedback

I’d seen good things on this other wheel - Thrustmaster VG Ferrari - and considered buying it, and making some type of PVC stand for it. It’s $90

Fanatec. Look up their site. Sorry about your wallet. They’re the only way to go.

Yeah... the wheel base along is more than I’d want to spend on the whole thing. But it is very, very cool stuff.
