Now the 6-7 month wait begins...
(Sizing is the same as the car pictured above, but the color is the same as the top picture. Oh, and they’re magnesium. Because lightness.)

Those are sexy as hell. I’d love to put those on my MR2.

Mmmmmm those are nice

Gazoo Racing runs a set of 15s on their rally GT86. They’d look great on the MR2!
Plenty of used sets of them out there on forums like Club4AG. ;)

Good choice. Those look quite nice.

Thanks! I love the old school wheels on these cars, given the throwback styling cues reminiscent of 70s and earlier Japanese cars.
The only wheels I’d want more than these are one of the prototype TRD Tosco sets.

Keep an eye out for Rota Retro 2, pretty much an identical design to these, not released yet from what I can see but shouldn’t be long

Was thinking about getting some Watanabe for my Rx7... But then I realized I don’t care that much... I don’t have 700$ worth of caring to be precise haha
![]() 10/16/2015 at 08:36 |

Yeah, I’ve seen the posts about those. Not a fan of Rota though; especially now that I’ve ordered my dream set of wheels. Haha
![]() 10/16/2015 at 08:47 |

Haha yeah.
What gen RX7 do you have? Some of the FBs had stock wheels that look almost exactly like the TRD Tosco wheels, which is one of the best looking classic JDM wheels.

Something not stock lol
It’s a Japan only Re-Amemiya factory Turbo SA22C... The Turbo 12a RX7 is kind of a unicorn as probably less than 2000 were ever produced. It has the 12A Turbo engine that never left Japan... It developped 165hp when stock, it’s fair to guess it’s probably at 180 to 190hp now with the RE-Amemyia treatment... It revs up to 9000 rpm instead of 6500rpm now too, which is kind of scary for a 31 year old engine lol. I never really go over 7000/7500rpm.
As far as wheels are concerned, I think I have SSR wheels, but I’m not even sure lol. Yeah... never really cared much about wheels :)

nice! Such classic wheels. Man, I think I really want a Toyobaru. I need to go test drive one.

17x8? How much do they weigh?
![]() 10/16/2015 at 09:45 |

I’d look at used sets, especially being in Japan. There are probably some great deals on used Watanabes over there. They demand a greater premium in the US, because they’re hard to get. Pretty safe to say I’ll likely be the only Toyobaru in the midwest with these wheels.

Yes, they are. Yes, you do. And yes, you do again. lol
Once you test drive one you’ll be sold. They’re fantastic cars.

Yeah, 17x8 +35. According to their website, 12.8lbs.
![]() 10/16/2015 at 09:49 |
|
Yeah they are more common, and I have seen used ones... but I need a weird +19 offset in 15 inches, which is not common for those...
![]() 10/16/2015 at 09:54 |
|
Ahh. So I take it you’re looking at the R-Types?

Nice wheels - my roommate has a set of 8-spoke Watanabes on his G35. However, the bad Michigan roads led to one of the fronts fracturing across 3 spokes.

Had to check what they were lol, but yes these are the ones I wanted :)

Oohhh, don’t tell me that! lol
Hopefully the magnesium alloy can stand up to the Chicagoland roads.
BTW, Road America?

Figured. haha They’re just the lower offset version of what I’m buying. Well, good luck trying to find a used set!
They’d look great on your car.

yeah I think so too, but I have other things to get dialed on it first so ill take care of that later on :)
![]() 10/16/2015 at 10:09 |

Yeah, that was kinda my plan too. Then the opportunity arose to buy my dream set of wheels, and I decided to pull the trigger. haha

I don’t know about the magnesium. He says his were cast aluminum.
I’ll let you know. I have to get the Volvo done today, along with a front hub and valve cover gaskets on a 3800-powered Impala.
![]() 10/16/2015 at 10:17 |

I believe the magnesium should be stronger. Guess we’ll see!
Sounds good. If I’m not checking on here, easiest way to get a hold of me would be FB if you’ve got one.

oh wow, so lightwight!
![]() 10/16/2015 at 11:13 |

Yeah, I’m excited to get them and actually check the real-world weight for myself.

I’ll look out for the post when you get them

Magnesium wheels are generally track use only, from what I’ve heard. I’m not sure they’re the greatest choice. Here’s my aluminum one. I bought the set secondhand, but Michigan roads were not kind.
PS: In case unclear, I’m that roommate.
![]() 10/16/2015 at 14:04 |

Well this is disconcerting. haha
I’m reading that they do have somewhat of a life span, because of the alloy’s likelihood for corrosion. So perhaps brand new it won’t be much of a problem. I’m not sure now though. :/
![]() 10/16/2015 at 14:57 |

Well I’m seeing what I can do to switch my order to an alloy wheel. If the order has already been sent to Watanabe I’m outta luck. If not, then I should be able to switch to aluminum ones and save a bit of money too.

A good choice, I think. If you can feel the weight difference (in driving conditions on the car), I’d be hugely impressed.

Managed to get it changed. Likely for the best haha
