I think we all have this list. A list of day dreams, or goals to reach, whether realistic or astronomically, out of reach at the moment.
But I and way I think all car guys have a list, perhaps a short list of car the feel a direct need to own one day. So here is my top 3. Feel free to share a few of yours, or all of them. And for the sake of the spirit of the list I’ll only include cars I haven’t already owned.
1, A lightly moddified Del Sol. I love the styling, I love the interior, and it would check another box on my goal of owning every Honda from 88-2000, which in my mined is when Honda was really “Honda”.
And I love how good it lookes on a set of Kosei K1s
Chrysler Conquest, or Mitsubishi Starion TSi, I just love them. I spent 20 minutes driving one lightly modified/”fixed”(these cars originally came with some bad engineering that the fans/aftermarket have found fixes for) and I can’t get over it. I must own one.
An E30, 2 door, =for dirt road/offroad fun. I haven’t had the privilege of driving and E30, in fact I’ve only ever driving one BMW, a busted ass E36 325i sedan that was clearly about to die, but the appeal of then E30 on the dirt is undeniable. ps I love driving one dirt... LOVE.

My list is rather long...
1 - Datsun/Nissan S30Z
2 - Porsche 911 3.2 G50
3 - Lancia Delta Integrale 16V (evo if possible)
4 - Corvette C5 Z06
5 - E39 M5
6 - Alpina C1 or C2, engine doesn’t matter
7 - Alpine A110 1600SC (my father’s car to be precise lol, not another one)
8 - Fiat Dino (that I would keep for myself this time)
9 - E46 M3
10 - Toyota Celica GT2000 (the first gen)
That’s for the top 10 of the car I WILL own, I also have a second list of cars that I want to own if I become really rich lol

That’s a pretty diverse list. Mine always changes but realistically it’d probably be:
e46 M3 (who’d have guessed that right?)
e30 M3
Porsche 911 997.2 C2S
Alfa Romeo 4C
Audi R8 v10 with a manual OR Ferrari F430 with a manual (because we all need a goal to chase for our passions in life)

It’s a pretty long list. Most immediately is probably an SVX and a Prizm GSi; hopefully within the next few years. Further out is a GT-B and Blitzen. Beyond that, is only a vague idea.
Longer is the list of cars I wouldn’t mind owning if the opportunity presents itself under the right circumstances.

I’m with Flavian. There are too many awesome cars out there to not have a long list.
1. e9 (as soon as I find a good one)
2. ‘50s or ‘60s Cadillac convertible (1-2 years)
3. Delta Integrale (2-3 years)
4. Zonda (this will happen before I die. It may be the shitty, slow one from 1999, but I will one day own a Zonda. I will. I’ll sell my goddamn house if I have to)
5. OG Hummer, probably Army surplus (whenever I get around to it)
6. C2 Corvette, preferably a split-window (when I get a few more rental properties)
Now for the stuff for which there is no plan in place:
7. ‘70ish Challenger or ‘Cuda
8. El Camino
9. e30 M3
10. e39 M5
11. e39 540 Touring
12. LS1-powered dune buggy/sand rail
13. Old bubble-top van with 4wd conversion
14. SC400/SC300 LeMons car
15. Orange Datsun 240Z (my dad had one)
16. GMC Typhoon
17. Old G-Wagen (preferably convertible)
18. Amphicar
19. ‘64ish Riviera
20. The one I’m ashamed of: Plymouth Prowler
21. If things turn out well: Ferrari F40
22. If things turn out even better: Lamborghini Miura
Knowing me, I won’t ever sell anything, so all of these plus the 11 cars I have now will leave me with 33 rusting hulks sitting in my front yard when I die.

Pretty short list ... AE86, EVO/WRX, maybe an NSX. Having a fun car to scratch the itch keeps the cravings down.

FD RX7. Always loved the style of these. Even if the engine would grenade eventually, I’d be fine with the ubiquitous LS1 swap
International Scout. Always wanted a convertible 4x4, and IMHO this one is the best looking.
Volvo 850 T-5R Estate. When most people were dreaming of supercars, I was dreaming of this turbo brick.
And a bonus one
1985 Pontiac Grand Prix, two-tone blue. My dad had a brown one growing up and I loved that car. But the blue just looked better to me.

Here’s my list right now, in no particular order:

- a Mini Cooper (any)
- Subaru Forester XT

TL;DR warning: I blabbed a LOT in this post.
Mine dream list is a little cliché, but it goes like this:
1. 1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe. The styling is simply timeless to me, and the body kits available for newer gen ‘Vettes never really seem to do the original car justice.
2. 1970 Plymouth Superbird. The car that was spawned by Richard Petty’s racing career. The looks are loved by some, derided by others, but to me it was a bold statement in a day when aerodynamics consisted of taking a box and shaving it a little here, a little there, and then calling it a day. The Scion xB follows this methodology, but with less shaving, and a flimsier box.
3. 1991 Toyota Supra - with a $20,000.00 mod budget. Thank Gran Turismo 2 for this one. I knew about the car before ‘99, but started seriously learning what this car was about after encountering it. The styling always looked sophisticated to me without looking overtly swoopy. I like the Mk IV Supras, but the Mk III looks downright svelte by comparison.
4. 1979 Dodge Li’l Red Express with a 24V HO Cummins 5.9L swap. Done properly, it not only has the semi looks, it also has the sound. And the performance would be there to match the looks.
That’s the list...for cars/trucks.
For motorcycles:
1. 2001 - 2005 Kawasaki ZRX 1200R. I’ve owned a 2000 ZRX and a 2003 ZRX, I will get another. With a basic set of hand tools (and a LOT of patience) it can be taken completely apart, rebuilt, and put back together over the course of a weekend. There’s a huge following, there are plenty of private parts manufacturers for the bike, and when the bike is in tune, this thing will scream !
2. BMW F650 GS or G 650 GS. They’re damn near unstoppable ( except for the occasional front fork failure ) and they’ll manage more than 60 mpg cruising down the highway.
3. Yamaha VMAX 1700. The damn thing goes 0-60 in 2.5 seconds and is a sheer monster on the 1/4 mile.
4. Ducati Monster 1200R. It’s the crossroads between the ZRX and the VMAX, for me. Classic styling with incredible performance.

Call me boring, but my list might be a bit simpler. Maybe it’s because I have two very young kids and I just don’t see any huge changes in my financial situation... so I tend to genuinely lust after cars I could actually go out and buy tomorrow, if I wasn’t already saving for their college educations.
In no particular order:
Any Porsche 911. The older the better. I’ve always wanted one and my interest has never waned.
1958-1960 Ford F100 4wd 4 speed long bed. I almost bought one this summer, a former Fire Dept truck with 30k original miles. Goddamn daycare/diapers/college savings.
E28 5-series, either 535is or an M5. The 535is is probably, like the E39 540, a much better value because it doesn’t have that 50% markup for the M badge and it’s still a great car.
E39 540i/6 for all the same reasons.
An EFI 350 powered 1950’s suburban. Because family.
And I guess I’d have to throw in a mazdaspeed mx-5 because that was pretty much the most fun thing I’ve ever driven. And again, relatively cheap.
I don’t know, I’m sure there are more. These are just things I scour CL for regularly and would have bought 3 or 4 times over if not for... yeah. I love them so much! Right?! Of course I do.

I’ve always tried to keep my automotive desires somewhat realistic. That’s why I’ll never be like “my favorite car is a Ferrari 599 GTO.” because altho that is a car I do admire, I know I’ll never have that kind of cash flow, and even if I did I’d rather buy some land and a garage, and a rally car than just one 6-700,000 dollar car.

Yeah I think for most of this is a pretty fluid item, rather than a set in stone kind of thing. The Starion will always be there, as well as another 4th Gen Civic hatch with a GS-R swap, which I excluded since I’ve owned one before (B18powerplant not withstanding).

your list reminded me of a few.
78 Volvo 242 in lime green (my dad had one, that regularly raced a few Datsuns. and even won a few times)I’d love to build one with an S2000 F20C under the hood.
A 66 Barbuda
a 67, 0r 70 El Camino.

I would have, and could have made a longer list, but 1 I wanted to use pics and I’m to lazy to do that for 20 cars.
The NSX is one on my list two, and the Terminator, despite their used prices being crazy(this goes for both cars). I would like to own somethig with a rotary eventually just because they’re so weird, but I’d go with a 79-81 RX-7 with a FC Turbo II swap.

I’ll do that, thanks! I always thought they were cool, mostly for the unique implementation of an automated targa top. But other than that I thought they were a relatively uninteresting FWD Honda.
God, the Japs sure had it down in the 90s. Even the relatively pedestrian cars could be cool: Sera, Del Sol, CRX, Figaro, etc. Makes you wonder what sort of cars we’d see if more countries had those sorts of bubbles.
