I thought the R’s were v8’s. Am I wrong or is this guy?

I’m also pretty sure they were RWD

Early years are a supercharged straight 6, then they switched to a supercharged 8. These are such a bargain and supposedly not *that* unreliable! The supercharger is an eaton unit

its RWD

intresting point...if this a X300 chassis, then yes, its a supercharged 4.0L straight 6. but its the X308, its a SC 4.0L V8.

the differences are too minute for me to tell them apart at this angle.

First few years had the inline 6 get blessed with a supercharger. The supercharger itself is the Eaton M62, I believe. It was the blower GM used on the 3800 motor. So it is pretty well sorted out for a high-po engine. And yes, they are RWD. The I6 XJRs are a bargain.

The XJR is indeed RWD and a supercharged I6. They switched to a V8 in 1998.

Yes I think you actually can. Preventative maintenance on these and replacement of cheap plastic parts is what keeps them running fairly reliably.

The inline 6 by the 90s was actually reliable. The supercharer itself is amazing and the car is pretty well settled in. I would say......At most it is as bad as an older BMW.
