I just went back to 8, best for touchscreens.

I have a TOSHIBA (commence groaning and tomato hurling) desktop (touchscreen) running Win8. Unfortunately, it went out of production like 3 years ago, so MS will probably never certify it, and I’ll never get my free update :(

you can still get it free here

I don’t think that’s how it works. Genuine Windows Device + Window 7 and up = free upgrade to 10. Doesn’t matter how old the device is as long as the license is good.

Computer came with OS already installed, so I don’t have the product key.

Doesn’t matter. Windows 8 key is stored in UEFI so it’ll activate automatically.

I’ve been trying to use the “Get Windows 10” utility that magically installed itself during an update, and every time I open it, it says something like “we’re trying to certify your device for the best Windows experience blah blah blah.” Not that I really care that much. Thing’s probably gonna melt next time I try to do something in 3d on Photoshop anyway.

I’m not gonna worry about it because hopefully the thing will run itself into the ground soon. Then I get a Mac.

I kept Windows 8.1. Way better IMO.

Yeah, my dad, who took up using my old Dell Inspiron after I bought the XPS, downloaded and installed Win10 just fine, and that’s on a PC that was bought in 2010 and went through a lot of crap to get back into working order after the cooling system failed.
