Hello friends. I have recently returned from an almighty epic road trip. I took my lady friend and I drove quite far. All the way from Ottawa to North Sydney and back. What follows will be a day by day account of our trip. I had a great time, and would do it all over again, maybe taking a little more time in PEI and Sydney NS given the chance.

Day 1: Ottawa to Edmundston New Brunswick.

Distance: 738 km/ 458 miles.

TL DR edition: Getting stuck in a ridiculous RV traffic jam in Montreal. Cathedral Notre Dame. View point off of exit 439 on Highway 20.

Here is the car I took: 2003 Cavalier 5 spd with 203,000 kms on it at that time.

Remarks: We left Ottawa at about 10am headed east bound in the mighty highway 417. It was sunny. It was gorgeous, and after a long two month absence Ms BBB was by my side. The drive between Ottawa and Montreal is nothing to write home about. It’s a 4 lane that goes through some farm fields.

Once in Montreal I got into the tunnel on highway 720 and man!!!! RV traffic jam. I have never seen so many Rv’s in one place. And this was one slowwwwww moving jam too. Finally I got off at exit 7. All the RV’s were in line to turn right, so I turned left and went another way. After all, I thought. “How could it be any slower?” It wasnt slower it was faster. We parked near the mighty molson brewery and went to Cathedral Notre Dame.

It’s pretty spectacular. If you like pipe organs, well this church has got a cool one. It has 1,648 pipes ranging from a few inches, to about thirty feet or so. Dayum. That’s some organ.

From there we drove on down highway 20 towards Riviere Du Loup. The highway is a nice 4 lane, it’s pretty busy but not too bad. Nice to drive it in summer and not the dead of winter as I did previously.

There is a lookout at exit 439 which is pretty grand!! It’s on the mighty st Lawrence river.

We ended the day crossing into New Brunswick off of sketch highway 185. Highway 185 is what connects most of Atlantic Canada to the rest of us. For years they have been making it a 4 lane from a 2 lanes, but there are still some two lane sections. We ended up in the south of Edmundston and stayed at the Days Inn. Good continental breakfast there.

Here is the sun setting right around 10pm. You cross a time zone entering New Brunswick. We forgot then went “why is nothing open”.....oh right it’s 10pm on a sunday. But we got some pizza. It was a great day!!!!!
