I still don't understand the purpose of blocking your license plate in a photo.

There really is no point.

Exactly. Its like the Facebook privacy post that keeps going around. One idiot does it and everyone starts to freak out. "GOTTA COVER THE PLATE IN THE PHOTO MAN. SOMEONE MAY STEAL MY IDENTITY" "What about all those times you drive down the street?" "BUT THE PHOTO MAN. THEY MAY GET IT"

I've posted my plates when selling my last vehicle. Was not kidnapped, raped, or shanked, as far as I recall.

tell them about all the publicly accessible security and traffic cameras all over the streets. They'll lose their minds

My favorite part is that you can typically get their first name and address if you look at the car.

Pop quiz:
Have you ever driven your car on like, a public road? Have you ever parked it anywhere that someone might walk/drive/bicycle/segway by?
If you answered yes to either, people have seen your license plate.

I've wondered that too. Maybe people with stolen plates/cars started doing it and it caught on. Maybe it's paranoia that somebody at the DMV/BMV/whatever-it's-called-in-your-state may look them up and go steal their car...pretty useless practice in my opinion.
