Joking aside, I think they were ~$27,000 USD new so there would have to be a proven collector market for this type of thing.

VERY VERY very very nice price! Plus, it is technically legal here thanks to the "Limited Production" loophole! And no, not the "Show and Display" method. There is seriously a loophole for special edition vehicles like this.
