I smashed a hole in the top of the dog house. Riveted a chunk of license plate I had found over it.
Only the best for my dog!

That's not the best. The best would be a patch plate of 6061 that had been laser cut, and installed with aircraft-grade rivets - with epoxy seal.

You like your dog way more than I like mine.

That's the best use for an old plate I can think of!
For future reference: road signs are stainless (or maybe really good galvanized) and make great patches in places where the weather matters. I've used them to patch floorboards before and they work amazingly well. Put a bunch of silicone on it and pop-rivet it in place. Viola! New floorboard!

I've been collecting road signs and license plates for my rat rod interior. Much to my wife's chagrin.

There is a license plate patching a hole in the roof of my house. Well, covering the hole in the sheeting where the bathroom fan vent used to come through the roof. We did put shingles over it.

In my mind, you're "retiring" them directly from their original jobs... but I'm sure you're an honorable man who's obtaining them through more legal means :)

Yeah. We'll go with what you said.
