Well as some of you know, back in September I bought a 240z project, sight unseen, 800 miles away from me. I had my friend back in California check it out and pick it up, and he gave me the green light. Then I didn't get to see it until Christmas...

Kinja'd!!!

We had about 7 days to make it drive to Utah. It needed new ball joints, tie rod ends, steering boots, brakes, water pump and all the other cooling bits, oil change, fix a slightly major oil leak, fix a severely major fuel leak, fix the lights, tune the carb and fix the vacuum leak in the brake booster... So like nothing was wrong and my whole family knew I would break down and freeze to death while the car burns to the ground make it with no troubles!

Our biggest fears were the pile of an auto trans taking a dump, and overheating. Then I found out the Z was owned by a Mormon, who left lots of Mormon things in the glove box. I think that was the good luck that got me back to the "Promised Land"!

And we did! 800 miles and not a single breakdown!! Just butt turrible cold (no heater and the exhaust fumes mandated open sunroof the whole way...) and we only got pulled over once!

We left California at 6:30 and got to Utah at 11... It was snowing when we got here, so the next morning we did big celebration skids in the parking lot.

So it's now been here for a week and I've already traded the 4 barrel carb for a lightened flywheel, used clutch, pedal box, and an invite to the next autocross in April. Gonna be swapping in my 5 speed over the next couple of weeks and getting the SUs all set up (need an air cleaner). It hasn't been long but it's already been more fun than I've ever had with a car. It's my own Roadkill episode!

Clean car! Everybody loves a 240Z...they're rare where I live because we salt the roads in the winter, therefore all of the Z-cars are now piles of dust. Gonna be a great project though, good luck with it.

Nice, but may need a new roof skin to remedy that aftermarket sunroof... or maybe a bigger, and better-fitting modern canvas roll-back sunroof that would be cooler than that pep-boys special carved into the roof.

I'd be tempted to re-fit it as a 432 lookalike... with charcoal wheels, matte black hood, front and rear spoilers, and a JDM-style vertically stacked dual-tip muffler, and maybe a nice looking set of over-fenders.

If the TV Show Scorpion is any indication, S30 Z-car is the choice of a genius... The pilot episode had a brown 240Z... a later episode had a later model orange 280Z, driven/owned by the main character.
