What would be a good truck to have. Basic entry levelish with a V8. Not looking at foreign so don't even say it... I love Chevrolet so that's likely what I'd do if I could... Oppo opinion?

Pre-LS V8 chevys are cheap and durable as all hell.

90s 1500.
Or forgo the V8 and get an older Canyon/Colorado. I5 power!

73-02 C-10 and silverados. The 99-02s have the LS based vortecs while older trucks had traditional small blocks. I love 90-93 SS 454 pickups but they are getting hard to find.

What's wrong with foreign?

10th gen F150. My 2000 just went over 250k miles, 5.4L super cab 4x4. I love that truck, tow greats, drives nice, never complains.

M600 pickup

Nothing but I like American trucks... because 'Murica and I like them better.

Chevy CUCV M1028A1.
Strong NP205 transfer case with PTO
6.2 Detroit Diesel
Full floating 14 bolt rear end with detroit locker
Dana 60 front with limited slip
4.56:1 Axle Ratios
Beefy TH400
Heavy Duty Everything
This is one of my dream trucks. It has so much potential. The 6.2 has the same motor mounts and tranny bolt patterns as a 454

Easy Ram 1500 ST.
Comes standard with 390hp Hemi,A/C & Cruise. The V6 is actually a higher priced option because of the 8spd auto (Hemi gets 6spd auto)
In Canada these are $19,999.00 what a fucking steal! A 390hp Hemi under 20K how can you possibly go wrong?

Chevy C-10 or a 90s F150.
Syclone gets V6 honorable mention for sheer awesomeness.

It's like $25k here in my lovely United States... overpriced I think.. but that Hemi is something I want..

Not looking at foreign brands, or not looking a foreign-assembled trucks, or neither?
You're really limiting yourself there. Sounds like you made up your mind anyway. My suggestion? Colorado V8.

Basically no Toyotas and no Nissans.
![]() 09/30/2014 at 20:07 |

That's about as cheap of a new V8 truck as you will get.
![]() 09/30/2014 at 20:07 |

even at that you get more for your money with the base Ram as you get with the base Ford or Chevy. I'm a Ford guy but the Ram is clearly the best value. when it comes to basic trucks.

Because V8 Colorados are still really expensive.

Toyota Tundra
Nissan Titan

Understandable, but if you can't find anything there is always overseas. If you are feeling real adventurious, you can get a minitruck and swap a V8 in. Then you go drifting.

I had an '80 K20. I miss it so much.
350 c.i. 4-bolt main w/Quadrajet.
NP205
full floating 14-bolt rear axle
Dana 44 front, IIRC
Muncie SM465 "Granny 465"
Everything was iron. I think the biggest piece of aluminum in that whole truck probably was the housing for the flasher relay.

What sort of duties do you want the truck to perform?

Every conversation ever on oppo can be traced back to Regular cars.

Truckie things... like somewhat good off the tarmac and be able to carry stuff.
![]() 09/30/2014 at 20:41 |
|
How much stuff? Will there be towing?
![]() 09/30/2014 at 20:42 |

No, but stuff... like idk, just like stuff you'd put in a truck... (Drawing major blanks right now sorry)
![]() 09/30/2014 at 20:49 |

Just know that you don't need a v8. Foreign trucks are great at doing trucky things, usually with the benefit of fuel economy.
Also, I'd rather off-road a '90s Tacoma than a 9th gen. F-150 or something.

But "murica....
I kind of agree with that...
