Someone has been driving a 280zx around my campus, and I am quite jealous. Please, share pictures of the Z series to make me happy.
*sigh*
They'll never be cheap enough for me...

I want a 240Z so bad, but rust scares me. and all the ones in my area have a ton of rust.

But fuck that! GET IT ANYWAY! It's like my plan: if I ever have the money for a new sports car, I won't. I'll get a Gen 2 Viper. My dream.

I think the gen 2 viper is gorgeous, but the gen ones are beginning to grow on me. Especially with these wheels:

But not the lack of ABS and even A/C!

I drive by a 260Z every morning and the owner is just letting it rust away. Heartbreaking.

Who needs a/c when you have a convertible, and ABS? PShht A real man can handle the brakes locking up

I know, pretty rare considering it was only sold one year in the USA and 4 up here in Canada.

US or UK? Because 280ZXs are dirt cheap in the US. You can pick up a mostly clean example for around $2500 or $3000. Literally one of the cheapest reliable sports cars you can buy. And I mean reliable . It's an 80s car that will run 200k no sweat if you treat it nice.

Wow. That's the only pretty 350z I've ever seen.

5-7 years ago was the perfect time to buy one. You could have them for under $1000 in running condition. '79-'80 5-speed NON TURBOS are the best choices. For some reason they seem to hold up better than the 81-83 models, probably because they made more of them (so more of them survived without being trashed) and because they were simpler.
The mechanical fuel injection was brilliantly designed and extremely reliable, utilizing an MAF way back in the 80s. It was way more reliable in the long-term than the continuous fuel injection they used on most German cars at the time.
The weakest part is still the body, but rust on them isn't as bad as 240Zs as the 280ZX sealed up better and didn't let water get into weird places as much. Road salt will still destroy one, though.
Looking at ebay is deceptive, because 90% of them being listed are for stupidly high reserve prices. Notice how all the ones for bid are either in the $3000 range or less, with a few exceptional examples touching $4500.
Catch a good one on craigslist being sold by an old person (or husband who just had kids) and negotiate them down and $2500 is possible.

Yep. Soon. I will get the 280z of my dreams. Soon. TY for advice, though!

Dude you could definitely snag a ZX for cheap. They're reliable and affordable. Like under 5 grand for a pretty decent one! Until then, here are a few Zs for you.
That's my 240!
