Between the Blazer 2-door, Blazer 4-door, and S-10.
Oh, and why would you get that one?
This is actually a tough question for me, because I'm trying to answer it right now as I kinda half-assedly search for a new (to me) vehicle.
I'm leaning towards 4-door Blazer as of right now.
(Oh my god car based content mixed with the desk posts and AMAs, what a concept! Can we please stop bitching about those now?)

For some reason I've always been a sucker for either the two door blazer or S-10 with the ZR-2 package. Just really liked them.

Well, that seems like the best of both worlds.

I really love the 2-door blazers with the ZR2 package.
They just seem rather hard to find.

Blazer 4 door, most doors and a covered back end is more convenient. That being said I think the Oldsmobile version looks better so I'd get that one.

Always had a soft spot for the Xtreme.
With a slight drop and a LS motor would be PERFECT.

I forgot about the Bravada actually.

I always liked the Xtreme simply because it's a boy racer body kit from the factory.
All the ones I ever see for sale now have been trashed because they're the ones most teenagers want.

C'mon man! It was early 2000's GM, every platform needed to be sold under at least 3 different brands.
![]() 09/18/2014 at 14:01 |

S10

This point is so valid it hurts
Could've been like the Trailblazer and sold under 5 brands.

Still looking for one of those?
![]() 09/18/2014 at 14:04 |

This isn't even a question
S10, manual, biggest engine available

As a former owner of a Ford Sport Trac, It is the best of both.

The Blazer got a stick and 4.3 as well.

Must find one now.
Being as I think I've only ever seen one in person, that might be a challenge.

I'm still kinda surprised they didnt get Cadillac in on the Trailblazer game. I mean they already had the fucking prestige in the SUV market that none of the other brands had. But nope, they thought "Hey, Buick could use a car we already sell at three different price points."
![]() 09/18/2014 at 14:09 |

They would've had to totally reskin it if they sold it as a Cadillac. The rounder styling of it wouldn't have fit in with Cadillacs knife edge (at the time) art and science design.

Bravada
Because I already had one and it had one of the nicest interiors of any car I ever owned and it's a 4.3 with awd. You know what that means. Strap on a turbo and BOOM.
Instant Typhoon.

Mmmm, Typhoon.

A boxy one
Do I want one? Yes.
Can I afford one? Theoretically.
Should I spend that money? No.
I am looking, but more in the 'I really want one and if the perfect one fell into my lap I'd jump on it' way.

I was 19(?) when it came out so.... yeah. I'm one of them still.

I have no love those at all. I've Driven my Grandma's … its terrible.
My answer is as follows.

It's so weird seeing manufacturer pictures of those trucks when they're all clean and perfect, since I'd say a solid 99% of the ones I see are beat to shit and make the most unpleasant noises.
![]() 09/18/2014 at 14:36 |

There was a Yellow ZR2 for sale in really good conditon for like $3k. The want was strong.
![]() 09/18/2014 at 14:37 |

No thank you.
![]() 09/18/2014 at 14:38 |

Really? A lot of the ones I see are still in pretty decent condition.
![]() 09/18/2014 at 14:44 |

Oh yeah, collectively, those are some of the most common beaters I see. I don't see many 2 door blazers, they're usually 4 door, but yeah, those and S-10's are almost always roughed up.

A boxy one? Just for shits and gigs I'm going to embed this (incase you haven't seen it).

That's pretty awesome.
![]() 09/18/2014 at 15:14 |

But the S10 is lighter! It was like a cross between a sports car and a truck
![]() 09/18/2014 at 15:16 |

I don't think I've ever heard someone say an S10 was a sports car.

S10 extended cab, v6, 2wd. In Victory Red
![]() 09/18/2014 at 15:46 |

I don't mean a literal one... It's just that it's so small compared to today's trucks. And it was available with a stick. So it's the closest thing to a truck/sports car mix

'96-'97 Zr2, because MPFI 4.3 without the '98+ facelift (ugly, IMO).

If it were my choice between those 3, id get the 2 door ZR2 Package, or the package that makes it look tougher.
BUT
I think it would be cooler to have either the:
GMC Sonoma in Z71 Guise: (Bonus points for cool colors)
GMC Jimmy: 2 Door is cooler, but 4 door is Luxury with capital L
or Oldsmobile Bravada for Extra Rare/Cool:
All these will suit you perfectly.
![]() 09/18/2014 at 17:46 |
|
I would say the 01' and newer Chevy S10 because it offered crew cab, and you can get 4WD with that option.

Well, I've owned a 88 S10 2 door Blazer and an 04 4 door blazer.
If I had a way to combine the 4 door Blazer with the ZR2 package I'd be picking that.
The ZR5 pickup is a great choice if you want a pickup.
I say 4 door because I'm telling you, it was a pain in the ass EVERY TIME to get people into the back of my first blazer.
Here's them together:

I think a sub-set of a collection of Trailblazer derivatives could be fun.
Trailblazer, Trailblazer SS,
9-7 of course, 9-7 Aero
Bravada
Rainier, with the V8
GMC Envoy XUV, I think that's the one with the Studebaker slide-forward rear roof
Envoy and/or Trailblazer with the three rows of seats
and Ascender, absolutely. With a Trooper thrown in for good measure to allow for appropriate mournful reminiscence.
I'm pretty sure the cartoon-truck whose name escapes me is part Trailblazer, I'm not sure.

03 Sonoma ZR2. Owned one in indigo blue, had some odd factory sunroof in it with very thin glass. Loved it.
