Question: Should the Lumia 520 and 920 operate the same way with the 8.1 update when paired via BT to a car?
Getting word that a 520 does not support music browsing using the Nav system in a Lexus while I can do that with my 920.
Any thoughts? Am I still ahead on my Dev Preview even though the 520 on AT&T has gotten the Cyan update?
Thanks!

Doubtful. The 520 is a fairly base-model phone, likely does not have the correct BT profiles. Keep your flagship 920, wait until Q1 2015 for the new Windows Mobile (fka Lumia) devices.

Does the 920 have cyan? I'm a little confused. Are you saying they both have Cyan, and only the 920 works with the music browsing?

ATT hasn't released Cyan to the 920 yet. The 520 has BT 4.0, A2DP and LE; the 920 has BT 3.1 (4.0 with Cyan), A2DP, EDR/v4.0 and LE. I'd guess it's part of the EDR profile that allows that type of communication

Not giving up my 920 ANY time soon. Question is related to work.

The major difference between the 920 and 520, Bluetooth wise, is that the 920 has EDR. There's probably more to it on the innards, and which protocols are supported, but that's the kicker that I've found.

Okay, that helps. Thanks!. I will pass the info along.

ATT released Cyan for the 920. I'm using it right now.

Sorry, should've clarified. Cyan hasn't been released by AT&T for developer preview users yet.
Though you did make me go and check for updates again ;)

Oh ok. I had the dev preview. I downgraded when MS announced that issue that wouldn't let us update. I waited for weeks without 8.1. That was a slow few weeks. It was like using an old phone without 8.1.

Slightly related: Know of any way to make the three soft-buttons dim during quiet hours on my 920? I know shouldn't read on my phone at night, but I do anyway and I would really like if those damn icons didn't fucking light up the entire room.
I'll try the feature suggestion page, but I doubt that will get much traction.

Is your brightness set manually, or is it set to auto? I haven't had an issue with brightness on my 920 at night, but I've got it set to automatically adjust brightness.

Nope, there aren't any settings for that to my knowledge. What you should do is pick up one of the new phones coming out Q1 2015 that have no buttons.

It's on auto. The screen dims just fine, but my capacitive buttons under the screen are always on "make you eye balls bleed" or at least it feels like it since it's all dark in my room since I'm trying to sleep.

I might, depending on how huge they are. The 920 is about perfect as far as phone size goes. I also do not understand what the problem of it being heavy is. It feels solid and well constructed. I HATE super light phones. They feel cheap. And if your damn phone is too heavy to carry, you have problems and need to see a doctor.
Also any screen bigger than 4.5 across is a damn tablet and the people who buy them need their eyes checked.

I'm right there with ya. The HTC One (M8) for Windows is comparable in size and specs to the 930, but lacks front buttons. If it wasn't for Microsoft's awesome firmware and kickass PureView camera, I'd probably buy one o dems in a heartbeat.
You could stop by your local Verizon store and check out the One (M8) and see how the lack of buttons on the front works for you.

I will have a look, but I am interested to see what Nokia (RIP) had in the pipeline before MS took over.
They are really not helping themselves buy releasing phone after all the holiday shopping is over. It's almost like MS doesn't want this work out.

Nokia (brand) may be gone, but their devices live on :)
This is a huge case of really really bad timing on Microsoft's part. The merger, restructure, rebranding and major OS development has killed them for this year. I can only hope 2015 is a riot
Maybe that's Satella's plan too. Apple does major releases every two years, right? And Android releases whenever it damn well pleases. So if Microsoft can release on the years that Apple is stagnant, that's a pretty good way of drumming up excitement

Perhaps, but they are eliminating a TON of potential customers by not having their phones as the new shiny when everyone is out shopping for their new shinyees.
Releasing in Q1 also means that everyone else has all year to catch-up or distract with their products.
Maybe 2015 will let them get focused. Sadly I feel that MS is just too big to really make the effort.

Agreed. I was going to buy a McLaren when it came out in November. Now, I dunno. Along with every other 920 adopter, my phone is out of contract and I want a new flagship
