So I'm driving the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! around Southern California this week. If anyone has or knows somebody with a stock XJ Cherokee in the area, who'd like to meet up to do a comparison (dimensions, maybe some light off-roading?) get in touch!

I've got a WJ Grand Cherokee in Wisconsin.
I'm sure this is very helpful to your needs.

THIS is an excellent use of the Oppo community. We're here, use us, and some lucky opponaut gets to go play with the Jalopnik big wigs.
Hope it works out

I get the whole naming thing, but wouldn't a last-gen Liberty be more appropriate of a comparison?

That's just comparing the current Cherokee with its immediate predecessor. Whereas comparing with an XJ is comparing with a "classic."

I have a stock '99 Cherokee sport in Carlsbad. It's a beater and needs new shocks, leaf springs and sway bar bushings, but the 4wd still works fine!

jeepforum.com > california local forum > roll call los angeles. Lots of local Jeepers shooting the breeze there and love to wheel every weekend on trails from mild to wild, myself included... but I'm a TJ not an XJ.

I'm even more helpful, as mine is actually an XJ, but not stock and in Michigan.

Posted to NAXJA's SoCal Chapter. I'm sure you'll get at least a couple guys from there.

I was going to say YES! But then I realized you meant Los Angeles, not Lower Allston.

I have a 97 XJ that's stock as far as powertrain/suspension and such. It does have a front locker but that's it. Link to a picture is below. I will be out at Ocotillo Wells this weekend with the Southern California Off Road Explorers who will be in a diverse set of 4x4 vehicles a lot of them pretty stock.
