I nominate the Lancer Evolution. I don't see many posts of this car.

I think Stef(?) has a Lancer that got posted about a little but otherwise you're right I don't see a lot about these.

Better question, which car is the least talked about but should be talked about more.
We used to talk about the Evo a lot more, before it got... dull. I think the Ralliart is more interesting now, since it's a much better deal.
I'm going with Mitsubishi Pajero.

True - maybe a week back I suggested someone take a look at a used one, but that's all I've seen lately. I've mentioned my mom's '77 Aspen (d. 1984) more often.

I will nominate the Pontiac Vibe GT(Or Matrix XRS). In the first generation it got the wonderful 2ZZ, and the second generation got a bigger, yet less powerful(more torque) 2.4. Neither were a slouch at low 7 second to 60 times. Plus they are pretty fun to drive, and dead reliable.

To Be Discontinued! Hopefully tuners keep making Evos as it's a huge shame the Lancer is dying...and the last few were losing the plot anyway

oh yeah! Is that a '55? The '55s had pipes that came out of the bumper in the coolest way possible. I love how every year was different.

I see them as funky Priusses (is this a word?) but with real engineering. It's a missed opportunity for Audi.

Mini Cooper S. It handles like a go-cart, and is one of the best hot hatches on the market in the US, yet no one posts about it. Ever. Even during talks about hot hatches, it's like, "Ohm we have the Golf GTI, the FoST/FiST, and uhhh...I think that's it." How does everyone always forget the Mini?

It's price. It only really competes with the FiST, but it starts at $24k.

I was just gonna do a thing! The nicest car I found in that entire volvo yard was a near blemish free Ram Raider (no sr20) begging to be yanked out and project-ized, could probly get it for $200 I'm looking into it. With the right color and the grill/headlights blacked out they kinda look like mini Rovers if you squint hard.
Aaannd the easiest engine swap is the 2.6l turbo from Starions : ).

This little thing.
While drab and mundane, it's sales and sales of other cars just like it from other manufacturers keep those companies in the black allowing them to give things that we enthusiasts crave.

Sure, it's fun to drive. But if you ever get it serviced you might as well total it because BMW only accepts payment in the form of 'spare' organs, first-born children, and weekends of depraved sexual acts with your significant other.

I've never heard that from people I know who own one. I know it's more expensive to service than a Ford, simply because BMWs are more expensive to maintain than Fords. But how bad can it be? It has to be cheaper than a 3-Series.

They also look pretty good restomoded.

![]() 09/14/2014 at 19:25 |

BMWs are NOT more expensive to maintain than a Ford or any other make of car. Ze Germans just want you to think they are so they can justify their crazy service prices. That BMW badge is the only reason you pay more.
The parts they use have the same amount of time spent engineering them, otherwise they wouldn't meet current safety standards. But because BMW uses German engineers, they must charge more for their parts than others.
Therefore, since the MINI is just a BMW in a different coat, it's much more expensive to own and maintain than the equivalent type car from anyone else. There is zero reason for a small, FWD hatch to be so expensive to service when you can get the same thing from anyone else.

Given how stringent our modern safety standards are today, everything is built to the same safety requirements. Is a BMW better engineered than a Ford, or a Honda or a Toyota? The BMW dealer would tell you absolutely. Were they at one point in their history? Certainly.
But any brand car will get you to your destination equally as well. Is everything equally as nice to drive? That I cannot answer, but do not buy into any hype until you drive anything yourself. Brand snobbery will only limit your choices and eliminate wonderful driving experiences

I've driven many BMWs, and many Fords. And I have driven many other cars from all across the price spectrum. And I can tell you, no matter who makes it, there is a quality difference between a more expensive luxury car and a lower-tier car. Is every last cent of the premium price justifiable? Of course not, but certainly, some of it is. Does that mean a Mini is worth the higher repair bills over a FiST? Depends who you ask.

Quality does not always equal engineering. Some of that quality comes from simply using better materials. Does that mean you should pay the same for a Ford and a BMW? I never said that. I also never said that BMW wasn't worth more than a Ford or a less 'luxurious' car.
Only that believing that paying a premium for service is somehow a priveledge. The cars have to meet the same set of standards, so the parts should be roughly equal. You're paying extra owning a BMW because it has that badge on the hood. Is it worth it? That's for someone else to decide.
