In short, both people that were gonna help me get this 351W out and back to my dorm couldn't make it, I wasted my time and money to come out here and I'm stuck here by my self with no way to get the motor out and back to my dorm; this shit won't fit in the FoST. I'm fuckin pissed. So fuck this motor, I'm gonna go find a damn 302 short block whit can fit in my car and do this all by my damn self. I don't even care.
Lesson is, I can't rely on anyone for shit now. End rant.

The good news: you learned this lesson early in life.
When you can find people that you can trust and they trust you, make sure to stay friends forever.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 16:43 |

I'm gonna end up doing this whole damn thing by myself and probably fuck it up too at this rate. :(

Couldn't have said it better.

Aw man that sucks. That block was a gem too. You know if I was out there I'd drop everything to help you. I love doing that kinda stuff
![]() 09/13/2014 at 16:49 |
|
Yeah. But now there's no one to help me now. I don't even believe I can do this shit myself.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 16:50 |

You have the power of OPPO on your side. It'll be hard to fuck it up.
I have a good bit of Fox body experience as do a few others here.

You can always count on us for sarcasm and clarity after the fact!

But I've never even done a thing like this before. The most I've ever done was change oil.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 16:54 |

I really don't see a bright side to this at all though.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 16:59 |

what about using your moms wind star to pickup the engine?
![]() 09/13/2014 at 17:03 |
|
Not enough space to do so, she uses it for her temple shows and I'm not about to explain how I need to borrow the van to pick up a damn V8. That and she'd tell my dad right away.

"The most I've ever done was change oil."
You already know how to turn a wrench. Good.
Work as slowly as you can, bag and label what bolts/parts came from where.
The most important part is to step away when you get pissed off, cool down and think the problem through.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 17:29 |

Did you get attacked by a badger? That would have been bad. Amusing to the rest of us, but we would have felt a bit bad after laughing. Where are you at anyway?
![]() 09/13/2014 at 17:44 |

It's a pity you're nowhere near close. I'd offer ridiculous decommissioned Forestry SUV support if you were.

Michigan, why?
![]() 09/13/2014 at 18:49 |

Is your dad not supposed to know?
![]() 09/13/2014 at 18:54 |

It's supposed to be a surprise..
![]() 09/13/2014 at 18:55 |
|
Oh, good surprise. Rent a Uhaul?
![]() 09/13/2014 at 19:00 |
|
But that's monies I don't wanna spend. I'd think it'd be too expensive for such a simple task.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 19:01 |
|
You'd probably spend the cost of the rental in the price difference between that engine and a craigslist crate motor
![]() 09/13/2014 at 19:07 |
|
I could pick up a shortblock for $100-150 and carry it in the back of the FoST. I don't know about the other though.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 19:26 |

If your around mobile, AL I would find some time to help you get it.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 19:36 |
|
Ack! Nooooo! Maybe you can rent a pickup with a lift?
Or a cherry picker lift and a pickup?
![]() 09/13/2014 at 19:36 |
|
No you won't, that's why we are here to help you.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 19:38 |
|
Yes you can! I did all of mine by myself. I even went as far as to build a bed mounted lift for an old Ford pickup I used to have out of some scrap steel and an old 10 ton bottle jack.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 19:38 |

I appreciate the help, but I'm near Detroit, Michigan. :(
![]() 09/13/2014 at 19:40 |
|
I fear that'd be too much than I want to spend. Perhaps it's a message that the motor is bad and probably not worth it? I found some "gunk"(disgusting feces or fecal mater or a dead something underneath the valve covers/intake. Looked disgusting. -_-
![]() 09/13/2014 at 19:41 |

This is true. We do have the collective mind of Oppo.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 19:43 |
|
I guess I don't know. It all seems like a bit much for one person to do alone. Hopefully I can do this then.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 19:45 |

you buy my car, I'll drive up haha, 14 hours is what it took me to get here from VA. I do know of a very rare car up there I have an insatiable desire for, but my car would be quite a lot lol.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 19:49 |
|
Maybe, but around here you can rent a pickup from Menards for about $20 for a few hours and the rent on a cherry picker shouldn't be much more than that if any.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 19:56 |
|
Never heard of Menards, not sure we've got such a truck company here like that.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 19:56 |
|
I bet you can. I swapped an engine in a 69 Mustang in my gravel driveway many years ago. All I had was an old 65 Ford truck and a borrowed cherry picker. It was very difficult to move the cherry picker on gravel, but I managed to get it done somehow.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 19:56 |

What car are you after?
![]() 09/13/2014 at 19:59 |

Also, I'm having thoughts of using an SN-95 instead of a Fox for some reason. I've heard that the SN has a much stronger structure and the V6's K-member can be used for a V8 swap, and they're surprisingly easier to find than Foxes here.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 20:12 |
|
The SN95 does handle and ride better, but the foxbody is a good bit lighter. I have owned both and I never saw much difference in the frame structures to be honest. I don't know about that V6 k-member working on a V8 for sure, but I don't think it will work because the engine mounting points are just as different on the SN95 models as they are on the fox bodies between the V6 and V8.

Menards is a lumber/builders/construction supply store. Maybe you have something similar there like a Lowes or Home Depot that will offer the same kind of deal?
I looked on Google search and found this one, if it is not close enough there are bound to be others surely?

I see. I'll continue my research then and see what happens. Although I may have found my motor "solution", if I get a response soon from someone online.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 20:26 |

Best of luck to you with whatever you decide.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 20:31 |

I got a response! '95 302 short block for $100 local to me and I can actually fit it in my Focus. It's not much to begin with, but certainly more than nothing. Plus the set of GT40-P heads, I'd say I'm off to a better start now, and one that won't leave me empty-handed.
![]() 09/13/2014 at 20:34 |
|
That's great, good score! Did the heads come with it?
![]() 09/13/2014 at 20:40 |
|
I was offered the heads for free(just paying the cost of shipping) last week, the same day I found the 351w. Since the 351 would require modifications for the GT40-Ps I was unsure to get them, but seeing as the 351 is a no-go, GT40-Ps are the way to go!

Might be able to find some local oppos to lend a truck bed. I'm in VA, so no joy here. I did get stung by a bee at cars and coffee this morning, if it makes you feel better though.

Dang. If i was on the east side id b there with my ol f150 to help. Unfortunately thats a lot of gas...
![]() 09/13/2014 at 23:53 |

Indeed it is. You're on the west side I presume?
![]() 09/14/2014 at 00:24 |

Yes kalamazoo.
Straight West side reppin!
![]() 09/14/2014 at 00:30 |

Oh right! At Western right? I think we talked about car meets on the west side some time ago?
![]() 09/14/2014 at 01:10 |

wait this project was real? I thought you were kidding this whole time. I thought these were crazy dreams like the Porsche Lambo
![]() 09/14/2014 at 01:12 |

What?? No, I was actually serious about this. This is the one dream I decided to make real.

Bummer about the Windsor. Saw you're getting a 302 and GT40 heads. Decent compromise.
![]() 09/14/2014 at 15:05 |
|
Well a 302 short block rather than a whole motor. I'm losing a lot in not having a complete motor, but who knows what I would have found in the 351W, could've been a basket case.
![]() 09/14/2014 at 15:39 |
|
It is true. Used motors can always be basket-cases though - comes with the territory. I gave you enough static about a 302 that you don't deserve anymore. Plus with those heads at least yours won't be the same as all the others I see.
Also, at least your ride won't be a SBC 350/Turbo 350/Ford 9". Yeah, they work, but they're not interesting anymore when every other car at the show has them.
![]() 09/14/2014 at 15:48 |

I'll be honest, I'm not sure what the end result will look like; hopefully it'll look respectable. Something that will be appreciated and enjoyed by many.
![]() 09/14/2014 at 15:58 |

My two cents is as follows.
Looks like this:
Goes like this:
![]() 09/14/2014 at 16:18 |

I just don't want a rusty POS body that'll need more work than the motor that's built for it. :(
![]() 09/14/2014 at 16:19 |
|
I can dig it. Structural rust is a no-go.
![]() 09/14/2014 at 16:35 |
|
That's my one and only concern with a body; that and that the whole body is there with the suspension. Can be unpainted or fading, I just want a body in good condition.
![]() 09/14/2014 at 21:28 |

Yea im pretty sure we have
![]() 09/14/2014 at 21:29 |

I still have to make it over there sometime hopefully before winter.
