I discovered this lovely artifact this morning. It is down to the bare metal. In fact, it almost feels like it DUG IN to the metal a bit. What. The. Hell. How does this even happen? I'm livid.

Looks like the wheel kicked something up.

Well it's not as bad as when my dad's Audi got keyed from the windowsill down...

My car is covered in similar damage. Get some metal primer and some matching paint and a cotton bud. With a steady hand you can get a pretty stealthy repair.

Well almost not as bad, perhaps.

Sucks. I had the same thing happen to my old Mazda3 (I can tell by your wheels :)) in a parking lot at school. Someone opened the door so hard into the rear quarter panel it dented and scraped down to the paint. Like a giant gash.

People are assholes.
That's not going to buff out. You should get some filler and paint that asap.

I special ordered some True Red Mazda touch up paint. They mixed it after I ordered it and had to have the car's paint code as proof and everything. I'm going to clean it up later this afternoon and touch it up as best I can.

I didn't think about that. That is a big possibility because with me going back to work I have been driving through construction zones a lot. Hmm. I still hate everyone, though.

It's a little low to be a scrape from a door. Plus, given the location, angle of the scrape, and lack of a dent, I'd say you ran over something metal, it kicked up, and cut into the paint.
I'm kind of an expert on man-made dents, as people seem to think that it's perfectly fine to slam their doors into my truck at every opportunity given.

I scraped my Fusion with the clip of my pocket knife after some jackass in a rusty F150 parked too close to me and I had to squeeze my fatass through.

UPDATE.
I cleaned it and touched it up to the best of my abilities. That's as good as it'll get cuz I'm not taking it in for a professional repair. Apparently body work on red cars is ridiculously expensive. I got quoted $650 by two different places to fix a bumper scrape about a year ago.

Like I said, I buy my vehicles pre-scratched and avoid this whole fiasco altogether.

This one has racked up its fair share of scratches over the five years I've owned it. When I first got it, it was a year old and had 12,000 miles. So it was practically new. Each scratch has hurt me some. But this one was the worst. I normally only find new scratches when I'm washing the car. I found this one today just walking to it in a parking lot.
